if you have made an application to cic then you are in a implied status till the outcome of the application.(implied status is a legal status). Most of the time when your status expires and you have made a new application regarding your status ( visa extension, work permit, restoration etc) alberta health services do give an extension of 90 days (while waiting for the decision) but you have to make a request to them.
so try to call alberta health services and request a extension to your health card ( if eligible your health card will be extended just on a phone call).
