Hi,

Just wondering what will be the benefits of TWP during the first month. I will be going to Ontario and the government health benefits will only start after the third month.

My company will sponsor me and my dependents on the second and third month.

What can I do I need to go to any hospital on the first month. Particularly, my wife, who is going with me is pregnant. And with the delay of my LMO and the processing of the TWP might give birth on the first month.

Appreciate your opinions. Thanks!

If you need to go to the hospital during the before you have health care coverage, you will have to pay for all treatment out of your own pocket.

Thanks for the information. Now that will be a big hit. I pray I'll have my LMO soon and to have a quick TWP approval.

Not sure why your employer is not covering the first three months until Ontario health takes over?? Why just month two and three? Look at the government website, OP Manual, to see what the regulations are. Otherwise, buy travel insurance to cover yourself for the first month. Not sure this will cover pre-existing health issues. Unless you are able to drive to your new employment, how will your wife FLY at this late stage of pregnancy?

the private insurance company usually excluded the maternity or delivery to their plan and giving birth here without health coverage is very expensive..hopefully you can come here even 4 or 5 months before she gave birth...

LOL, fhj.....I don't think his wife will want the pregnancy to continue for 13 months....sounds like she will be about 8 months by the time they arrive due to delays in LMO, etc.

I'll recheck with my employer. I do remember that my benefits will take effect a month after. Or was that my insurance....

You brought up a good point regarding flying my wife. If I still don't have have the work permit on the end of her 7th month, I'll probably go first and let her follow after she gives birth.

Then I need to get a TRV for my new born child so that my whole family can come over.

That might not be a bad idea. I'll try to look for insurance company in my country that offers maternity/delivery benefits and that they extend these benefits to Canada. It will be costly but might be less expensive than the expense in Canada.

Do you have any idea how much giving birth cost in Canada without health coverage? Thanks!

Just did a quick google and there are lots of links. Here's one.
Baby delivery costs for visitors to Canada

No, OHIP doesn't cover newcomer's to Canada unless they are refugees or have been approved for permanent residence and completed the 3 month waiting period in Ontario after being approved for permanent residence.

I read a post from a family in Mississauga.

Costs
2650$ for doctors (vaginal delivery or c section)
1000$ for each day at the hospital

Thanks! This is a great help.

I really need to clear my benefits with my employer. Then need to have plans B and C as well.
