We went to a pretty well known photography place. Inside the biggest mall (Super Mall) in Davao City. However maybe a chain photography place is not the answer as they rely on their pre-programmed software and don't seem to be able to apply any creative thinking or problem solving skills.

May I ask, will this be the same photo used on his PR card? Or would they request another for that?

I have a friend whose husband landed in Toronto about a year and a half ago. When he was going through secondary immigration so he could land and get his PR the immigration officer said that his photos weren't to the standard they wanted and so they took new photos there that were then used for his PR card. Maybe this is what will happen for your husband too? I'm not sure what was wrong with my friend's husband's photos... she said they didn't even realize until he was going through landing at the airport...

Thanks!

I think I will go out on a limb, and submit these ones for a couple of reasons.... mainly that his signature is on them and I don't know how I could get new ones printed here in Canada, then send them to him for the signature and send it back... oh how I wish I could sign for him as his partner. I just need to get this application under way as putting it together has dragged on for months now, it's hard to be a perfectionist.

If you're going to go ahead and send it as is, you should probably also get our husband to get new photos taken to the correct specifications and once u get sponsorship approval and get your Client ID number and the application has been forwarded to the proper visa office, send the new photos to the visa office so they can match it up with his application package.

Everyone can stick to the specifications, you should too.
"everyone's pictures are like that", that statement is BS.
I agree with Baloo. In fact, how would the photographer know whether the photo size created problems or not? Would the customers take the trouble to come back and inform the photographer? Probably not, so the photog is really in no position to assure you that there were no problems. Just trying to get away with their inability to do an apparently simple job.

Even where the embassy accepts the photos, the folks in Sydney who make the final judgment on the photos have been known to reject them -- causing a long delay. So I'd rigorously follow the specifications.

Did you try other photographers, explaining in advance the size problem? That way, if they cannot deliver, they cannot charge you.

Can your computer program reduce the head size of the photographer's photos, or just the ones you take with your own camera? Of the former, ask the photog for the disk, reduce the size yourself, then get the photog to print out. If the latter, then try taking a photo yourself, and if the quality is satisfactory, get a photog to print out.

This is a lot of running around for a simple transaction, and one of many examples of details that are much more difficult to accomplish abroad than in Canada.

I asked to buy the JPEG but they said they weren't able to give it to me. Typical run-of-the-mill customer service has a serious lack of creative problem solving skills. Culturally, what is difficult for me is that nobody does confrontation. When I confronted the photographer with the ruler upon getting the prints (after my initial showing of the 'bad photos' with the ruler and saying please don't make one like this) I nearly caused a cultural incident. Naturally I said I can't pay for photos not done to specifications.. When she responded with "Maybe it's ok" I said, "Maybe it's not ok" and listed all the reasons why. I was quite nice about it, but since confrontation is NOT done there, me and my partner didn't speak for about an hour on the way home and afterwards.. This was embarrassing for him, he told me I should have just paid the $4 and taken the photos and maybe they're fine. I waited till the last day to get these photos because we had been sick, and we wasted our last day together in the Mall to do this. By the time the photos were ready it was 4pm and too late to recruit another photo imaging place. I didn't take them because I still have the old batch of big head photos. Who needs another.

So I decided that since I have a DSLR myself I could take some shots, which I did.

Who are the folks in Sydney? And does it cause delays to add things to your application package by mail?

When the embassy grants the immigrant a COPR (I'm so used to the acronym now that i can't recall what it stands for), you land officially, and present the COPR with photo to the immigration officer, who then forwards the COPR with photo to Sydney. There, the folks process the application, hopefully produce the PR card, and mail it to your address.

However, I have read about several cases where Sydney (Nova Scotia) rejects the photo (even though the embassy thought it was fine), and requires the PR to submit other photos. This takes time -- and I think, but am not sure, that the PR must be in Canada to do this. This being in Canada is expensive and inconvenient if the PR must return to the home country for a year or two to wind up business.

davao CITY is a metropolis area in the Phils. They just went to the wrong photographer. You dont have to be so rude with ur comments, judging the OP 's husband to have meningitis or living in wilderness. Even calling out child abuse in the other thread.
Are you living in the same area??
