Having an autistic child while under Permanent residency status

Hi,

I have just obtained my canadian permanent residency about 6 months ago. Just recently, my Son has been disgnosed with autism. We are already in Canada. My questions are the following.
1. Is there any way CIC find out about this as we will probably be looking for doctors and specialists to have him treated?
2. Is there a risk that our permanent residency gets revoked just because I have an autistic child here in Canada?

Thank you in advance.

1. It's irrelevant. They don't care.
2. No.

Would have only been an issue if it had been discovered before your child got PR. Your panel physician missed any signs of autism during the medical or they weren't apparent at the time. As you will soon discover getting treatment for autism in Canada usually requires some very long wait times and is quite financially demanding. As we have just seen in Ontario, things are getting worse so I would expect that similar things may happen in other provinces. Would encourage you to start savings as much money for treatment and care. Canada has very little care after age 21 so depending on the level of autism you may have to plan to care for him at home in his adult years.
