Re: has anyone sent passport thro courier

YOU CAN SEND THE PASSPORT BY HIDING YOUR PASSPORT IN THE BOOK OR SOMETHING BUT NO COURIER COMPANY WILL TAKE THE PASSPORT IF YOU WILL TELL THEM.
IF YOU WILL SEND YOUR PASSPORT SOMEHOW - BEAR IN MIND THAT YOU WILL NEED YOUR PASSPORT BACK AS WELL - AND LA WILL NOT SEND THE PASSPORT BACK TO YOU. BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING YOU MUST CONFIRM WITH LA.
HAVING SAID THAT FEW COUNTRIES REGULAR POSTAL SERVICE DO TAKE THE PASSPORTS BUT NO PRIVATE COURIER SERVICE DOES THAT. SO YOU NEED TO CHECK THIS FIRST AND REMEMBER YOU MUST CONFIRM WITH LA THAT WILL THEY SEND THE PASSPORT BACK TO YOU OR NOT. IF LA WILL NOT THEN THEY WILL ASK YOU THE LOCAL ADDRESS IN LA WHERE THEY CAN SEND YOUR PASSPORT AND THEN THIS WILL BE UPTO YOU HOW YOU WILL GET IT BACK?

Why would you have to mail your passport from India to LA???? That doesn't make any sense. If you have applied to be sponsored by your spouse to come to Canada, you should be dealing with the New Delhi High Commission. What specifically does the letter you received say and where does it say to send your passport because sending it to LA seems very strange as IT IS ILLEGAL TO SEND OUT YOUR PASSPORT OUT OF THE COUNTRY EITHER BY MAIL OR COURIER!!! Any government agency would know this and would never ask you to do this!!

Re: has anyone sent passport thro courier

I have to send my passport to LA because they are d ones who r processing my case...see...my case is entirely different...My husband is not yet a PR holder...he recently attented his PR interview in LA and the visa officer gave medicals to both of us...FILE IS NOT TRANSFERED TO NEW DELHI...VISA OFFICER SAID HE WONT BE SENDING MY FILE TO INDIA BECAUSE THAT WOULD TAKE A LONG TIME AND HE IS ENTIRELY SATISFIED WITH MY HUBBY'S ANSWERS...so he gave me medicals too....just within 1 month of applying...now he has asked my husband to send the medicals followed by the passport(both mine & my husband's)to LA to complete processing...so i have to send my passport to LA not newdelhi...THIS IS MY POSITION...

Re: has anyone sent passport thro courier

Something just does not seem right here. Do you have the request in writing? It sounds like you just got the information verbally. I think either you or your husband have misunderstood something or they have misunderstood where you are. Because there is no way that the Canadian consulate would ask you to mail them your passport knowing that you are in India. Sorry, there's just no way. This is HIGHLY ILLEGAL and they would never ask you to to do that. If I were you I would consult an immigration lawyer before doing anything. If your passport is lost or stolen, you will have a big problem on your hands.

By the way, it doesn't take a long time for the file to be transfered to India. Once I was approved as my husband's sponsor they submitted the file to New Delhi and began processing within 2 weeks. This is typical.

Hi,
I don't agree with the guys that its not possible at all to send the passport thorugh the postal service.

I do agree that no courier company will take the passport like DHL or Fedex but the postal service in some countries they do take the passports.

If your postal service say No then you can hide the passport in a book or something and then send it through any courier service to someone you know in LA and then from there they will post it to CIC. You also have to provide CIC the return address local to LA as CIC will not send the passport out side the country.

Provide the same return address in LA and then get them to send it back to you.

Rgds.

Please note we are discussing India where it is illegal to mail/courier passports in/out of the country.

1. The DMP in India should send the medical results to Ottawa RMC, which does the medical results for N. America.
2. Your passport would be stamped in LA (if that is the office that is handling your spouses application)

It is totally fine to live in one country and have your immigration file processed in another. Immigration officers have the option to transfer your file to where you live but they do not always do so.

Guys please avoid making comments that confuse people when you are not familiar with a case.

As for sending the passport from India to LA, I am not familiar with the laws in India. However, if I were you I would inform the IO when s/he requests you send your passports that you cannot do that since Indian laws do not allow it. There may be an alternative to sending passports. Wait until the IO requests you send it though.

I am not an expert, and this is just my opinion.

Good luck

You can think what you want but Canada Immigration has rules that they follow. The Application will not be transferred unless it is for the "integrity of the program" . Another office will NOT stamp (COPR) the passport for another office processing a case. You can only apply to an office where you have been admitted to their processing are for a year or country of nationality/normal residence. CIC doesn't care how you get passports from your home country, It is not their problem.

Your comments are confusing the OP rather than the other posters.
