Is there any checking of the Hard Drives/ Laptops for any Adult movies / clips downloaded from internet at the Canadian Airports? I don’t think it should be so in a liberal country like Canada but due to its stringent copyright rules, just may be a possibility.

I know in some of the gulf countries, they do check your laptops at the air port for stuff like this. And may even send you behind bars if found guilty.

Please guide.

No you wont have any problems, only stupid gulf countries have these ancient/draconian rules for commoners and the pompous Sheikhs are allowed to pass through with porn and their 100 wives and mistresses

If they have some reason to believe that you might have illegal things on your computer, they could check it. However, it is not against the law in Canada to download movies and music for your own use. It is against the law to share for upload though. As for adult movies in particular, as long as they are following the guidelines for what is considered ok in Canada, I don't think you would have a problem.

I have never had my laptop checked when travelling but I have been asked to power it up so they can see that it is really just a laptop.

They didn't check my laptop when I arrived, although I was advised not to bring DVD-R's as backups. I brought an external HD too but that wasn't checked as well.

any specific reason why you mentioned " although I was advised not to bring DVD-R's as backups" ??

I think it may be a red flag for copyright-infringing content.

thanks for the info

CBSA has been know to randomly check computers/hard drives. Normally, they are looking for illegal child pornography when they do this. US CBP has been known to randomly seize computers, cellphone, Ipads etc and send them back to you at some indeterminate date in the future.

ah, i heard that also. because of fido file. nude pictures of kids are they using. :(

lol unless you put a nude wallpaper or a folder called child porn on desktop..you wont have any problem... and why do you even store it..just watch on internet.. firefox private browsing ftw!

you are right that we can always watch it on net but i have got a collection of some hard to find stuff.... found from internet but after a lot of hard work.... i have a couple of hard disks of such stuff. i will keep my laptop clean.

its certainly not child porn.

I got 2 TB hard drive with lots of softwares like photo shop, windows, MS office , and say nealy 200+ movies which I downloaded from torrent sites.
Not sure that should I delete them before landing or that's ok , as torrent are not copyright material .

Nice thread thanks for the info

just wondering about the canadian rules for pirated softwares downloaded from here and there....... are they gonna be deleted by authorities?

no..man do you think they have time to check every laptop?..thousands of people come and go everyday...
