I think that's a good idea. I do have one question though - Just before we proceed to the payment, a dialog shows up asking us to comfirm making no changes to the application details (aka DS-160 number). Can we go ahead and change the DS-160 number to the new one when we get our preferred location and date?

no you cannot change ds-160 number without canceling appointment/losing date. Hence why you have to inform the new embassy by email for them to change OR fill out another ds 160 and take both confirmations so they change day of.

Can't believe my luck...my payment couldn't go through because someone beat me to it. But it's alright...no one said its gonna be a cakewalk. Will keep lookin.
what are you talking about? it asks for payment first before even you book the appointment. My payment did not also go through with one card then trying with other card worked but its nothing to do with appointment though.

All, It allows any card right (doesnt matter US/Canada), right? for some reason my US card was not getting through and i had to use the Canadian card.

You can pay only when there is an appointment available. I got an error while making the payment.

I'm looking for appointment in Montreal or Quebec city for some time - in Feb or Mar. Have March 11 appointment at Vancouver. I live in eastern side of USA. I'm checking multiple time daily - if any one see appointment open in Montreal or Quebec - let me know.

No. I already paid for me and for my family. I am yet to make the appointment for 2 different groups - one for me (need to mail the docs) and one for my family(needs to go for interview). I am yet to schedule the appointment and paid already. The site doesnt let you stop paying before booking appointment. Also to book the appointment you need to pay first but it doesnt mean that its stopping you paying the fee even if you dont want to book the appointment right away.

Error might be related to your card/billing detail not matching with the card. I too got error while paying for me in the second payment but later i used some other card and now paid for both the groups separately without being scheduled for interview.

Thanks. I could also get some date in Apr for Toronto.
Looks like very less appointments being opened for few locations and gets booked in few hours. Unless we watch it for once in few hours, we cant get the appointment in locations like Toronto, i guess....

Booked Vancouver 27th Feb. I would have preferred Toronto or Ottawa, but this isn't bad either :)

I need to know if I and my wife can go for visa stamping from Canada while her I-539 approval is still pending and my I-797 is approved. Please guide me to the right forum. Thank you.

Yes, i dont see any issue in going for stamping as she is in legal status currently based on pending petition and can use your H1 petition for stamping(just like how she did first time). But once she applies for visa, she should be waiting in Canada till approval before she attempts to reenter. Usually a week time(or more depends on the case).
Make sure she carries the original receipt if asked at consulate/border on what was her legal status proof after I94 expiry.
One time they did ask us and unfortunately we did not have it (even though it was the last to last entry and we received new I94 during the previous entry hence did not bother to take it) and got troubled to go inside with warning saying why we did not carry it hence cbp can question the status in that period.
