H1B and new workpermit in Canada

I am on H1B with my family. I got a job in Canada and will be moving to Canada in feb on work permit.

My rental lease in US expires end of march.

My H1B and family H4 expires in March, can I move to Canada in feb and can my family stay in US until march ?
Also can we travel in between US and Canada until march end(note : I will be joining Canada in Feb)?

How will you be working at 2 places at the same time from Feb to Mar? How will you explain this to the border guys and the 2 jobs in 2 countries is not convincing?
The initial first month commute would be more scrutinizing as they want to make sure the new guys who started commuting frequently has purpose and have legality in their work/actions. So seems to be a problem.

If you move in Feb and family follows you in March wont be an issue but commuting will be a problem.

Your family is technically not allowed to stay.

You should definitely not try to travel back and forth after you leave the H1B employer in the US.

My whole intention is to find a right place to stay and then take my family to Canada. I will not travel back and forth but may be once at the end to get my family back and shift the luggage.

I have done exactly what you are trying to do.

Just get B1/B2 visa once you go to Canada. You can come to US as many times as you want.

You can do your house hunting while you still remain with the US employer. In that case you can return in H1B status easily.

You cannot commute like that as you won't have valid visa to enter US. Your H1 becomes void as soon as you quit your employer. Your family can stay a while as it's bit of grey area.

Most of them moving from US have PR, so they take trips while they are employed in US on H1. When they finally move after quitting the job, they plan in a way of not coming back again. This would not work for your scenario.

Would suggest flying in for a weekend and trying to secure a place to live. Assume you will be looking in Toronto where the rental market moves pretty quickly. Other option is a short term rental for a few months while you try and find somewhere to live.
