Okay.
So he has TRV for 7 more months (starting Feb 2014) and he is about to finish his studies in April 2014.
Well, you might not like what I am about to say. It is best to Waite till he gets his PGWP for 3years. Being honest, I would not know the feeling of separation after marriage, but I do know that it will be a bit hard to spend 6 more months in separation.
However, it is best to waite sometimes rather then making hasty steps. Followings are the points why you should waite.
1. Many people won't agree, but there are very high chances of rejection for SOWP when the spouse is on a student visa (dip/pg-dip) on a publicly funded college. So far I came across 3 successful SOWP wherein the spouse was enrolled into University either doing PhD or Masters. So unless your spouse is doing Masters/PhD from Uni, please do not waste your attempt.
2. After he gets PSWP of 3 years, tell him to find a decent job based on his qualification (Higher NOC Level preferred).
3. The job and his PSWP will allow him to prove the Immigration Officer that he is financially stable to maintain not only himself but also his family. And also once he starts paying TAXES ($$$$ to Govt) he will become an asset for the country.
Assume that you are an immigration officer and based on the guidelines who will you prefer.
1. A person who is financially unstable without job and can become a burden (Student Visa)
2. A person who has Canadian education and now contributing to Canada's economy (Open Work Permit with a Job)
So, I would personally prefer to Waite.....
Hope this helps
