NOC - 0213 is listed among the 38 professions, but NOC 2171 is not.

My latest 2 years of job qualify under 0213, and previous 3 years in 2171.

Will I be able to claim 21 points or 17 ?

urgent question pls... 4 points can make or break my decision to file for immigration...

quick response is highly appreciated

You can claim points for 2171 also because it's a skilled job.

So Leon, you mean to say that a person needs to have atleast one yr of experience in one of the 38 Occupations to get to qualify for consideration of application by CIC and can claim additional points for experience with different skills........for example say one yr as a trainer under 4131: College and Other Vocational Instructors and say 3 yrs under 2173 Software Engineers and Designers. So can a person with this profile claim 21 points for a total experience of 4 yrs?

Is that so or i am incorrect in my understanding? Pls clarify.

i435, you are correct. You can claim additional work experience as long as it is of skill type 0,A or B. 2173 is of skill A, so you can claim 21 points.

Seniors -
I was looking for FSW list of skilled workers job list, I could not find for skill 'A' and 'B'
I believe code starting with '0' is skill level '0' ie. '0213'

I am looking for 2173 or 2174 NOC code, is it available in FSW, I know they are in AINP (alberta).

thanks for your time, I know this might be repeat question, but I am looking for some clue on this

If the first digit is 0 it's a manager position and falls under skill type 0, level not important.
If the first digit is not 0 but the 2nd is 1, then it's a skill level A
If the first digit is not 0 but the 2nd is 2 or 3, then it's a skill level B

Those above are the ones that you can count your work experience for points on an FSW application, jobs you can get an AEO for, jobs that is easy to immigrate with if you are on a temporary work permit etc.

There are also low or semi-skilled jobs:

If the first digit is not 0 but the 2nd is 4 or 5, then it's a skill level C
If the first digit is not 0 but the 2nd is 6, then it's a skill level D

Those jobs above would not let you immigrate except if you get certain jobs allowed under the BC or AB PNP's and then you'd have to go in on a temporary work permit and work for 6-9 months before being able to apply for PR with employer support.

So to answer your question, 2173 and 2174 are both skill level A.
