guarantor and his wife as reference for new Canadian passport application

i am going to apply for Canadian passport after citizenship ceremony . i plan to choose my friend as a guarantor . my question is can i choose his wife as a reference ? thank you

Better to have different families.

The application form says you cannot use a family member or your guarantor. Everybody else that knows you 2 yrs is fair game, even the guarantor's wife I'm sure. I don't see the problem if you have limited options to choose from.
