Hello there. My brother (alone) is currently in France, they rejected his refugee claim there and he will leave the country.

He wants to go back home so he can get his wife & 3 kids and move to Turkey. While he’s in Turkey, we will do the Groups of Five Sponsorship for them from Canada.

I have a question that’s very important, his oldest son now is 16 years old, will he be able to come to Canada if he turns 18 years of age before they approve the application??

Thank you

Dependants are under 22. Is the family recognized by UNHCR as refugees? That will need to be completed first when the family is in Turkey.

thank you so much. My brother was very concerned about to being able to include his son with him, but your answer calmed him A LOT.

they are still not registered with the UNHCR yet, do you know how long it takes after they arrive in Turkey to be recognized as refugees by the UN?

I am asking this question because I need the paper from that proves they are refugees in Turkey to start the application in Canada. So do you know how long or what the process is?

thank you so much, we appreciate your time spent to answer us.

I don't know the answer to your question about how long it takes.

However something else that is worth checking on is whether the refused claim in France will have any influence over getting recognized as a refugee by UNHCR in Turkey. I'm not familiar enough with UNHCR processes to know one way or the other.

Good luck.

It could take months or years to be recognized as a refugee. There is due process that the UNHCR or Turkey will need to undertake prior to recognizing a family as refugees. Read through the UNHCR website.

You really need to seek legal guidance given that there may be an issue with an asylum refusal in one country and then seeking seeking refugee status in another. This is beyond the advice of this forum.

Hi

1. Also his return to his country of "oppression" demonstrates that he doesn't have a well founded fear, which would be held against him in any refugee claim.
he’s going back just to get his family out because they have no one over there for them.

So sorry , but whole situation is bad,
1. refused asylum in france

2. Getting back to home country for any reason after refused asylum and then moving to turkey for claiming asylum again.

3. Very long time of processing cases in turkey ( i know peoples being there for 4 years without any hearings as nowadays its the turkey police that processing the case and not the UNHCR anymore.
Its kinda impossible or if with a miracle its gonna be possible its takes about 5-6 years to get approved and the apply for 5g and fly to canada.

Omg that’s gonna be terrible news for my brother when he finds out. Do you know if it’s any faster if he moves to another country, like Jordan for example?
