Hello, I recently heard about the group of five program, I wanted to sponsor family member refugee back in Kenya. While reading document checklist, there is one thing I don’t understand if any experts member please explain it to me.
what strong document can you proff to the immigration that you have enough funds to support the refugee? I mean, is the bank statement enough? And how can you proof to them that the other group members are contributing? Is the trust account really necessary? If anyone that done it please explain to me. Thank you so much. God bless!

A trust account is not necessary but the funds should be in a central bank account. As stated in the guide, it can be a normal chequing or savings account that all of the sponsors contribute to (at least two of the sponsors must be account holders on that account).

It's not just enough to provide the bank statement. Other documents must also be provided such as T4s / NOAs. There must be at least three contributing sponsors and those sponsors must submit a financial profile form where they commit to financial support.

I would recommend you read through the detailed information in the guide below if you haven't done so already.

EDIT: Just to add, if you have further questions, post them to the refugee / asylum section of the forum.

Hello, first of all thank you so much for that. I read it several times but it’s just that part of the account I didn’t get but now makes sense. So what proof do I gave them that the other group members are contributing?

Hello, on the question it asks if the person has a already a resettlement in another country, what if the person has a already a resettlement in USA but hasn’t done any interviews. Are they still eligible to be sponsored to come to canada or not? Thank you so much.

I would really recommend you read the guide in detail. These sorts of questions are all covered there.

One of the requirements for the person being sponsored meet the following requirement:
  • and does not have a prospect of another durable solution, within a reasonable period of time, that is:
    • cannot return to their country of nationality or habitual residence
    • cannot integrate in the country of refuge or the country of first asylum; and
    • does not have another offer of resettlement from a country other than Canada.
If someone already has a resettlement fro the USA, then they will not meet the above criteria and you should assume they cannot be sponsored.
