Green Card holder visiting to canada from philippines

Hi my name is Romney Descalzo and im a canadian immigrant and soon to be a canadian citizen in couple of months im just wondering if my friend can go to canada from philippines just having her Green Card and a Valid passport? if not can you please advices me what document should She bring with her to be able to enter in canada. she will only staying here in canada for 1 to 2 weeks. she is planning to go here in April 28 or 29 depending on here departure, reason of going here because my sister is getting married on May 1st 2010 and im willing to pick here up in the philippines if that help. thank you for your help

Is your friend a Filipino citizen? If yes, then I think she needs a visa to visit Canada. From what I've read in the website, the visa exemptions apply to "citizens". Green card pertains to permanent residence and not citizenship, right? The Philippines is not among the list of visa-exempt countries; hence its citizens need a visa to enter Canada.

As to the application for permanent residence in Canada, I would say it's possible.

Well, the guidelines did not say that they should be coming from the United States. But she should be able to show that she is still a resident of the US, like an address and a job. Both countries have rules as to holding on to Permanent Residency. In the US I think you should not be away for more than 6 months (am not sure of this though, check their website). In Canada, you have to stay here for 730 days in five years. But I think a person can both have Canadian/American citizenship at the same time, and marrying a Canadian citizen does not automatically confer Canadian citizenship to the spouse.

she's a green card holder and has a US Visa but the thing that im worried about is she's from philippines and stay to canada for 1 to 2 weeks and go back to US. one more thing She stay in the philippines long enough i think for 2 years but her visa expiration is good for 5 years and green card is good for 10 years.

I understand your apprehension; she's coming from the Philippines and not from the US. So show a flight from Canada to the US or do it the other way if you want to have a greater sense of security at her being allowed entry to Canada- she flies to the US, then comes to Canada and drives back to the US. An address and a job in the US is sufficient to show ties with the US, you know. GCs come and go from the US. My own in law is GC but she's been GC for so long and she flies from the Philippines to visit relatives in Canada before going back to the US, but that's it, she can show proof of residence and job in the US when asked for but has never been asked for one.

so you mean she will have no problem going here and back again? well they always go to canada everytime they go to philippines or philipines to US cause they always use hong kong to vancouver and vancouver to las vegas... im just making sure cause she or me dont want to waste the ticket if the immigration in canada dont alow them to go throw

Citizens and permanent residents of the US (Green Card holders) do not require a TEMPORARY RESIDENT VISA to enter Canada as tourists. They may travel directly to a Canadian port-of-entry to seek admission. They must present proof of their status in the United States.

For US citizens travelling by land, acceptable documents to prove this status would include:

US passport
Birth Certificate
Naturalization Certificate
Please note: US citizens travelling by air will be required to show valid US passports to re-enter the United States.

For permanent residents, acceptable documents to prove this status would include:

Valid Green Card
Valid I-551 endorsement in their passport
It is also advisable to bring a valid picture ID, such as a Driver's Licence.

Canada Border Service Agency Officers at the Port-of-Entry will determine if you will be allowed to enter Canada. They may prevent the entry of persons:

who fail to establish their identity and/or status in the USA
who fail to establish that they will be able to support themselves and their dependants while in Canada
whose willingness and means to return to the USA are in doubt
who have a criminal conviction - including DUI/DWI convictions

I certainly can not give you 100% assurance as only Canadian citizens have the right to enter Canada. All others are granted privileges. But my sister in law has done it so many times I lost count. She's GC since the 70's. Did not become citizen despite having married US citizen, raised family and kids all grown up; visits Philippines for a few weeks, comes back through Van, visits friends and relatives and goes back to the US. Precisely. Because otherwise, they would have to apply for a transit visa

Guys now im confuse so how can i make sure everything will be 100% that she will be allowed to enter canada now im kinda scary that she will be declined and need to go back pls help me guys she needs to be here on april 28 or 29 depends on her departure .. or can someone tell me a contact number too call and make sure that she will be allowed to enter? or documents and papers that needed for here to enter the canada no problem? thx guys i really appreciate all of you guys that help me with my problem

What do you mean bad English Anyway, as has been pointed out, Green Card holders don't need visa to enter Canada; they just have to show their valid GC. You mentioned in your previous post:

So I concurred mentioning the fact that there had never been problems for her when she went to the Phils coming for Vegas and back, via YVR. Because otherwise, she would have had to file for a Transit visa. There... hope there's no more confusion.

well but she never leave the airport cause the thing is her ticket will be philippines to hongkong and hongkong to vancouver and vancouver to ottawa ( thats a lot transfer but cheap ) anyways she never leave the airport for some reason that she's scared probably the immigration will not allow her, so she never try. I have a 80% chances that she will be ok but still 20% still scare the hell out of me. I need to have 100% sure ehehhehe!! you guys know what it feels like having this feeling scary but excited hahah!!.. so anymore further info. will help and document or site to make my mind 100% she will be ok. There's never a 100% certainty that she or anyone else (except Canadians) to be allowed in. She will have no problems nor issues whatsoever, best she can do is have a proof of ties to the US and that's it. If she passes immigration, she can leave the airport and go wherever within the borders of Canada, there's no reason to worry at all.
