CEC2013, are you sure that a person needs to be holding a open WP already to be eligible for a bridge WP?

I thought even people with closed WP expiring withing 4 months are eligible to apply for bridge WP..please clarify!!!

I too understood that it is for all WPs ...not sure where it is mentioned that it is only for 'OPen work permit holders' ..best way to confirm is to send an email or call CIC. THX>>>>

CEC123,

You are absolutely right ..except one thing - The criteria is not "Open WP" ...If you are holding an WP ( even closed) and is eligible for Bridged Open WP program that has come recently.

No offence, but Please be careful when you write such statement as it unnecessarily creates confusion.

Thanks,

Issuance of Open work permit for CEC applicants are available only if the immigration had sent you an email stating that you are APPROVED IN PRINCIPLE.. IF NOT THEN ,, NOT QUALIFIED YET ,, AND IF YOU APPLIED ONLINE FOR EXTENSION OF YOUR WP THERE WOULD BE A QUESTION ABOUT UR PERMANENT RESIDENCY APPLICATION.

that's what I mean. If you are skeptical about something, just contact CIC to reconfirm. It's not that difficult, is it? :)

It says on the page,

CEC: the “Eligibility CEC” decision has been set to “Passed” or the Acknowledgement of Receipt letter/e-mail has been sent from CIO.

So, if you have recieved the AOR, then you are eligible for it (there's 3 other conditions too - need to be positive for all 4).

Thanks,

None taken!! And thanks for the correction. You are absolutely right and I should have paid more attention to what I was writing. My previous statement has been adjusted to what I meant to say in the first place. Eligibility is as follows:

The foreign national is currently in Canada;
They have valid status on a WP that is due to expire within 4 months;
They have received a positive eligibility decision on their PR application under one of the Economic Class programs above; and
They have made application for an open WP.

So, YES, anyone on a wp (that is within the 4 months) is eligible to apply. Apologies again for the confusion. Hope that clears up the mess I created.

good come back CEC...

Completely my bad...I was thinking and writing at the same time. Got a bit ahead of myself there. Sorry about the confusion again! And thanks for pointing out the mistake yahoo7!

I was just trying to bring some clarity to the board :)

Never mind CEC, mistakes happen. We all are in the same boat trying to reach the same shore..good luck to all of us..

so which means under CEC I can apply this OPEN WORK PERMIT after I get APPLICATION NUMBER, within 4 months of my PGWP expire. Is it correct?

Thank you Thank you

Thanks for sharing information. Actually I had also the same question in mind for a long time anyways you started this thread & I am so happy.

This is a total bummer... my PGWP expired in October 2011 and now I am on a closed WP that i got based on a Positive LMO till 2014 May... I alraedy had a few really good job offers that I can't take becasue of my closed WP status.. Argh now i am stuck doing the same job for another 14 months..

HELO FRENCHIE,

I do have the same question about spouse...if you get any more new information by calling CIC , please update the forum. THX>>>

So I called CIC twice : they were not really helpful, almost rude, but anyways :
  • the first agent just didn't want to answer my question. He kept insisting that I had to wait for my work permit to be within four months of expiring to apply, to which I replied I was fine with it but I wanted to find out now what would happen for my wife... If she's not eligible to that open work permit, I'd have to sponsor her, which means within four months of our work permits expiring, I'd have to apply for that open work permit for me, get it, and then apply to sponsor her, hoping it is before hers expires... So it might be a better option to just ask now for my company to get my WP extended and for me to sponsor my wife
  • I had to worm the information out of the second agent, but she told me I'd have to send one application asking for an open work permit to be issued for the both of us, with a cover letter stating we applied for PR and got an AOR. I really had to insist to get that information, so I don't feel 100% confident about it and I'm thinking of emailing them or calling again just to confirm

Did anyone else contact them on this topic ?

I am on the same boat . My closed work permit expires in dec 2014 . Let me know if you guys get any update on this. Thanks
