Thanks, Islington. I think Work permit with same employer will be the choice for me too. I will wait for the reply from the CIC email helpline before submitting and will post it here once I get a reply.

Why are you not submitting online instead of mailing it in? Isn't it faster?

Hi shells,

I have completed the application as follows:

- Work permith with the newemployer for my spouse as he will not contnue wrking with the same employer once an open wp will be issued
- Work permit with the same employer for me as I will continue workin for the same employer...

HOWEVER, it think it does not matter at all at this situation...

- I have left t 3rd page bank, inteded work in Canada..

I HAVE A QUESTION AS WELL, PLEAS CLARIFY:

- The same application package needs to be submitted as the regular exension of wp, only to state tht it is for bridging wp
-where do we have submit the application in paper format? ALBRTA OR OTTAWA????

Hi Lanzie,

Why don't you call the CIC helpline or email them your questions if you can't find any supporting literature? Remember that as much as the seniors are seniors, you should still check with CIC to confirm. Besides, this open work permit thing is new. Just because it's not written out in the literature doesn't mean the rule is not there.. call and check if you want to be 100% sure.

Also, whether or not closed work permit holders are eligible to apply is besides the point. Out of the 4 conditions, you are already negative for two of them.

The foreign national is currently in Canada;
They have valid status on a WP that is due to expire within 4 months;

They have received a positive eligibility decision on their PR application under one of the Economic Class programs above; and
They have made application for an open WP.

Your work permit has already expired on November 20th and you are NOT IN CANADA. What don't you understand there??

Also, if you read sabidhawan's post on Page 2, you will realize that he/she has already spoken to CIC on the same issue.

Called cic today and was told anyone who has closed work permit and is not expiring in 4 months cannot apply for open work work permit . This really sucks coz the reason i am on closed work permit id because i couldnt get an open WP earlier .

And, after calling and checking with CIC, if they tell you a different thing, then feel free to post it here and let others know.

Hi Shells,

Thank you. I understand this, I'm sorry that I did not specifically state as I did not want to cause any confusion or repetitiveness. My only query was whether or not the criteria is solely for applicants on open work permits as PPM indicated in his reply. This I found confusing since I could not find any supporting literature.

Thanks in advance one again.

AAAAHHHHHH :-X :-X :-X :-X

CIC: Jump through 15 loops... and we will make it easier for everyone else after you send in your application!

my rant of the day...

Hi,

I have sent my application...Should be there by tomorrow afternoon..Cross fingers....

Cheers and thanks for those who helped me in any way.... ;)

Hey islington did you have an LMO number to put on the form? I've never done LMO before so wondering if the form means i should get one or if i can just leave it blank. So far the form has not said the field is mandatory so i think blank should be ok.

Don't forget to post your timeline to let us know how long it took for you from start to end. Good luck! My PGWPP will expire only on Feb 16th.. there's a bit of time, so I want to wait for the email reply just to be sure (although I think you are probably right to leave out the page 3).

One of my biggest concerns is whether I need to resubmit my Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union (IMM 5409) (which I already submitted with my CEC application) previously. All the information remains unchanged since then. If I need to resubmit, then I would need to set up appointment and get it notarized.

One thing I'm wondering is, does it make a difference between leaving it blank or writing NA for Not Applicable? If I leave it blank, the officer may think we did not complete the form. NA is just more straightforward and takes out the guesswork for the officer handling it (hopefully making it faster).

Hi, I'm trying to fill out the form using the online service.... I'm just wondering where should I state that tht it is for bridging wp? is it in the form or a separate paper?

m10dx,

If the online version is like IMM 5710, then you would specify that in the "details of intended work in canada" section. Subsection 1 asks "what type of work permit are you applying for" and you should choose "Open Work Permit". Not sure what the online version looks like, but I'm assuming it mimics IMM 5710. Hope that helps...

Hi Islington,
I'm posting this on behalf of my friend, she is also in your case.
But her WP is expiring by Jan10 and her husband is in Open WP.

How much she should pay?

2 X 150 for the WPs
and 2 X 200 for the Restoration of Temporary Resident Status
or only
2 X 150 for WPs

Could you please let me know?

Capricorn2012,

You can apply for change of status to a worker. However, you are not eligible to apply for the bridged open wp at this time, as this option is only for those whose status is in the process of expiring (not yet expired). Depending on your current conditions, adjusting your status to a worker may require an LMO. But if you are a graduate (reference to your status as a student), you may be eligible for a post-graduate work permit or PGWP. Really just depends on your intentions and purpose...
