will people who has 8 months left on their current work permit( employer specific close work permit) and lose their job eligible to apply for open work permit?

u have to wait for 4 months more and then u can apply , as long as u hav ur aor on you.

Sucks for me . I have 2 yrs left on my closed work permit and i wana switch jobs so bad. I even have job offer from other companies but i am stuck . thsi 4 months time limit will really hurt some of us really bad.

Hi guys, this is great news !

One question though : does it also apply to spouses ?
I have a closed work permit and sponsored my wife about a year ago to get an open work permit. I applied for PR under CEC end of May and included her in my application, but it's been very slow so far (5 months just to get AOR).

Would I need to :
1) apply for that open work permit, and get my wife to do the same as well (is it possible for her to do so since she's not the main applicant ?)
2) apply for that open work permit, and then sponsor my wife for an open work permit as my spouse (not sure this special work permit would allow me to sponsor her)

I've read the whole announcement but can't tell either or.
I would appreciate your input. I might called CIC and ask them directly.

HELO FRENCHIE,

I do have the same question about spouse...if you get any more new information by calling CIC , please update the forum. THX>>>

great... My WP expired last week. THAT SUCKS. I want to die...

noidea4id,

Just thinking out loud here, and not sure if you've seen this, but you can always apply for restoration of status and then pursue other avenues (i.e. extension of wp, open wp bridging and so on). Probably doesn't help you much - worth the mention anyways..

This is awesome news.

I especially love this line "Furthermore, efficiencies are gained by avoiding unnecessary requests to Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) for subsequent labour market opinions (LMOs)."

Like, duh. I don't know why the hell they didn't think about this from the start. A little too late for me (and some other folks around here from what I can see)... But better late than never.

Hi ZT,

Yes why they don't do this before, have to wait till couple years. A little too late for me too.

Hi CEC2013,

If you restore your status, they still need LMO to give a WP. that's as far as i know.

Does anyone know how long this extension will take to be processed? My current WP runs out in May but will not be applying for PR until January. Hopefully I will receive the AOR in time to apply for this?

uing,

I believe that if you restore your status, you go back to what it was initially. If so, it would be logical that one would be allowed to pursue the new open wp bridging, since you would be back on an open wp. Of course, so as long as you are eligible (have an AOR). However, I would assume this to be a complicated option.

Thanks for this suggestion CEC2013, I will have a look at this possibility!

Called cic today and was told anyone who has closed work permit and is not expiring in 4 months cannot apply for open work work permit . This really sucks coz the reason i am on closed work permit id because i couldnt get an open WP earlier .

it say "within 4 months", correct me if i am wrong but within 4 months, means LESS THAN 4 months right? So you can ONLY apply if your work permit expires in 4 months or less, not the other way around.

Hi CEC2013,

My situation is, i just applied a restoration of status on the 13 and extent and change my status to a visitor because as far as i know to restore to become a worker a still need an LMO for WP.

So at this point because the new rules apply, do you think i should cancel my extent as a visitor status instead change it to extent as a worker and apply for open WP since i've got my AOR already since October.

Please advice, thank you in advance, any suggestion from others would help too.
