This is confusing. I am a lecturer in a public sector university in grade 18. And I am as confused as anything whether being government employee means I have held government positions. Anyone please?

Typically government position refers to an agent of a federal government, not all public servants. I too work for a public university, but I do not work directly for the federal government. A doctor who works for the ministry of health probably holds a government position.

A government position is a position with a government (federal, provincial or municipal) or a position with a government entity. The government entity can be a wholly owned government subsidiary, or a partially owned government entity.

Some examples are:

Universities which are under the state government
Companies owned by the government
Agencies of the government, like the customs, tax department, legal affairs, etc.

Here, the government does not connote just federal, but any employment in which you worked for the government. Only independent contractors would be exempt from this. This is asked to ensure a thorough BGC.

I mentioned it as employment and not government and i already submitted
What can i do now?
If you have already filed, just leave it. Usually this question helps in conducting a BGC. If you answer yes, the CSIS will ensure all areas are looked into. If you answer no, and if something is found then they will ask you for additional documentation.

Eg. If you are a professor of nuclear physics in a state university and you answered no to the question, CSIS will find out that in the past you may have done certain projects for the government in nuclear energy and will ask more questions. If you have answered yes, then they will straight away seek documentation and the filed will not be delayed.

However, if you want, you can raise a CSE and explain your employment.

I worked as a doctor in ministry of health for 8 mnths and i answered not applicable for that question.
I dunno if i shud raise cse ?
I would suggest you do, but its your prerogative and what you decide to do. Nevertheless, it will not be a ground of rejection and won't create any issues.

Hi,

Regarding the federal, state, local split.

If you worked in the past as a receptionist or in the accounts department of a local authority / municipality. Would this be regarded as a government job?

Thanks

Would the 10 year rule apply? i.e as I understand it you are required to provide personal information going back 10 years or since age 18 whichever is the most recent. If this was more than 10 years ago would it need to be disclosed?

Thanks for the help. 1 more question.

What would the answer be to the following under personal history:
Employed by local authority in accounts dept : should you answer employment or government? Under activity type?

And would you answer yes, no or n/a for listed all government positions?

Also, will further info be required? Do I need to include this in LOE?
