Hi Seniors,

I got my online WES report today and it says Canadian equivalency is "Bachelor's degree (four years) and one year of graduate study".

I have done M.Sc, I am not sure if I will get 120 or 128 points (I am Married).

Can anyone please confirm?

Thanks,
Ravi.

This is a tricky one. You should call WES and ask them to clarify what the "one year of graduated study" is equivalent to. Meaning, is it equivalent to a certificate or a diploma?

If you answered "yes" that your spouse is coming with you to Canada then your points will either be 112 or 119, depending on the response you receive from WES.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

you'll get points for the bachelors, not the msc. points only go on completed courses and if yours is not equal to a completed canadian msc you can't claim points for it.

Hi,

I had a similar situation. So if it says 1 year of post grad study or even grad study here is what it should be :

"ECA assessment results:

A three-year or more certificate, diploma, or degree

PLUS any of the results in the sections below (not including secondary/high school), or:

Post-Bachelor's Certificate
Post-Bachelor's Diploma
Graduate Certificate
Postgraduate certificate
Postgraduate Diploma
two-year Postgraduate Diploma, specializing in [name of discipline]
one-year Postgraduate Certificate in [name of discipline]
Study Toward a Master's Degree
Points
Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (with spouse) 119
Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (without spouse) 128
Federal Skilled Worker Program factor points (if this applies) 22"

So I received 128 + 22 points :). Hope this helps!!

I am also in the same boat.

You will not get any point for One year of graduate study.

WES considers Msc., M.A., Mcom. from India as "One year of graduate study".

You will get points for Bachelors and not for Masters.

If you claim points under "Study Toward a Master's Degree" then it is wrong because wording should be same as in WES report and also this is considered as a part of Bachelors or Graduate study not Post Graduate study.

This might be considered as Misrepresentation.

I suggest you to please call WES and also update the conversation here to clear most doubts.

Thanks.

Just to clarify here..

My highest edu qual is M.Sc. Chemistry from India.

I did degree equivalency tool on wes website from here: https://www.wes.org/ca/preliminary/poe.asp

and results what I got is as below:

For B.Sc.:
Equivalency in Canada: Bachelor's degree (3 years)

For M.Sc.
Equivalency in Canada: Bachelor's degree (4 years)

so, will not my education be considered as

Two or more certificates, diplomas, or degrees.

as per http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/eca-conversion.asp

ECA assessment results:

A three-year or more certificate, diploma, or degree

Yes. That is two degrees, at least one of them more than three years. I have a bachelor's degree (4 years) in Music, plus one year of a two-year MBA program, both from the US. My ECA says it is equivalent to a 4-year Canadian bachelor's plus one year of graduate study (or study toward a Master's degree) but I didn't find anywhere to get points for anything other than the bachelor's.

My partner has a 5-year Master's degree from Slovakia which got assessed as a 4-year Canadian Bachelor's degree, so he also got credit for a Bachelor's only. It's just the way it is.

Please call WES and clarify as Msc. of 2 years cannot be sole equivalent to 4 years Bachelors in Canada. They are saying it as 4 years Bachelors because 3 years Bsc. and 2 years Msc. total 5 years.

It is Two or more certificates with at least one being more than 3 years. I have clarified, used it , received my invitation and sent my application for PR :). i suggest that we all please only share clarified/established info. We must not panic and drive ourselves and others to negativity. I seeked clarification from WES and that's what they had to say. Just for the record, I had a post graduate diploma in modern languages from the UK and assessment report says one year graduate study.
To clarify @faithope's doubt, it doesn't necessarily have to be one year study towards a post graduate degree. it's simply graduate study post your bachelor's.

Thank you, hope this helps!
