You don't need a valid visa to flagpole from the USA. You better make that PGWP application before July 11, the expiration of your study permit or you will be ineligible to receive a PGWP
Thanks for your reply,
Yes, my understanding from IRPA is that to cross border from US to Canada study permit is enough, and I don't need to have TRV on my passport, Correct me if I'm wrong please, thanks!

Hi,

I just flagpole to extend my PGWP today, so I want to share my experience.

- Every single advice on the first post is valid. It really helps me through my process.
- I flagpole at Regway, Saskatchewan, Sunday afternoon.
- I have completed a degree which is a 2 years program, so I was entitled to a 3 years PGWP. However, I only got a PGWP with only 1 year duration since my old passport will expire next year.
- I applied and got a new passport. Then I came to the port with all supporting documents: old passport, new passport, PGWP, study permit, documents from school that prove my completion of study and the duration of the program.
- The officer first refused to extend my PGWP. He told me that I should apply to cic unless I have an urgent reason. I succesfully convinced him that I do have one. I got a job offer that asks for a two years contract. The start day will be the next two week. If I can't prove that I am able to work in Canada for two years, I can't work for that company. If I apply to cic, the processing time is around 4 months. The officer agreed with my explanation and proceeded to give me a new PGWP, which last for 3 years.
- I have to pay 255$ again.

Hope this helps anyone who is in the same situation.

An ETA is only necessary when flying into Canada from another country.
Thank you for your reply.

I asked because about the flagpole to US border, we are not allowed to come driving back Canada with Eta. Eta says only fly.

The Americans will refuse your entry and you will be allowed back into Canada by law. As long as you have valid status, the border service officers can process your immigration paperwork.

My permit was cancelled as I asked for a reprint, I found the permit after I filed the reprint request and now I lost the reprint in the mail and I have an invalid PGWP on hand.

I also have a valid TRV (visitor visa) on my passport.

Can I flagpole to get the PGWP extension? I was issued a permit for 10/36 months because of an expiring passport.
