Hi Guys,

I searched on the forum before asking these questions, but couldn't find an answer. First, I would like to thank this entire forum. Without this, I wont have received my PR. I am planning to land in a month or so. Have some doubts regarding the following.

- I will be moving to Canada with my 5 year old daughter. I would really be grateful if anyone could guide me a little about the documents required for my daughter's admission in school.

- I have the immunization records and will be taking the school leaving certificate too. Do I need anything else? Do I need to get medicals done again post landing for my daughter to get admission?

- I would like to know for how long is my international driving license from India valid in Canada? Somewhere its mentioned 3 months, and somewhere 6 months.

Would really help if someone can answer the above questions.

Regards,

Not sure about the first two questions. But I know the driver's license issue depends on which province you intend to reside at. For Ontario, you have 60 days validity of your foreign driver's license, after which you must have a Canadian driver's license to drive.

Thanks Haznac. I will be staying at Vancouver, BC. I guess that gives me 90days period. So figured out the last question. Looking answers for first two questions.

May I add one more to the list? :)

4- Can I buy a car as soon as I land? With no Canadian driver's license and no PR card yet.

I would suggest you to google settlement in BC, or website of BC Government, they often have some good tips for new comers. Can't say I know there since I'm living in Ontario, but it would be good to check the provincial/school requirement for injections for your daughter, they often have a list as well. I would suggest you to have a list of all shots your daughter had against the requirement, take as many as you can before come and has a list with you, it might needed when enrolling your daughter to school. Good luck

You probably can purchase a car but I can't say for sure you will be able to lease/finance one, it depends on the the car dealer's policy. Often they have specials for newcomers though. You will need a insurance and drivers license to register the car and get a plate, so that's the part you also need to consider
