Hello everyone,

How can I inform CIC about my change of marital status? I have already applied for PR got application number in July. It shows in process. I got married in September, My wife she is in India. Now, How can I inform CIC about my change of marital status? I actually emailed to CIO Sydney to inform about this but after 55 days they told that they do not have my application at their center and they told to contact CPC-CTD-Ottawa@cic.gc.ca for more information. Now my questions are:

1) Should I inform them first with the information or Should I send the forms and documents directly?
2)How long does it take to get their reply if I inform them?
3) which address should I send the documents?
4)Which documents do I need to fill up?

Because I want to add my wife to my PR application. Advise me about this asap.

Oh NO, How can you get married when your application is in progress ? Just kidding..hahaha!!!
To my knowledge and experience base on people answer here....
CIC will send you communication about something like PCC required or medicals and at that time they ask for any status changes etc and from there onward your communication will progress and you will add your spouse etc. Other than that you can go ahead and send it ahead but to my knowledge again the communication will start when they open your file and see your updated details and may ask you for your spouse forms/details.

So, why didn't you take the advice from CIO-Sydney, and email Ottawa?

You can email them to inform them of a change in family status, that you are now married, and want to add your wife to your application. Then ask for instructions and they will tell you exactly what to do.

I got the reply from CIO sydney last friday. I already informed Ottawa office today. I also appointed representative. My representative informed CIO Sydney first about my status. But they are saying they dont have my file so they cant say anything and told to contact CPC-Ottawa.

Thanks for your reply

I have a doubt. I am planning to get married during my application being in process and informing the CIC. Since you will be asked to fill in the main application(IMM0008) again with the details of your spouse, what if your spouse does not have his/her passport ready at that time? Should you mark your dependent as not accompanying, providing this reason and and answer “Marital Status Change After Filling Application? ” as NO. What will be the implications? will your spouse still be able to apply for PR after he/she obtains his/her passport? What will be the process?

The simple answer is, make sure your (future) spouse has a passport. Unless for some reason you're saying it takes a year or more to get a passport, I cannot think of any good reason for delaying inclusion of your spouse on your application. Moreover, I believe your wife still needs to have a passport even if non-accompanying.

“Marital Status Change After Filling Application? ” as NO.
I don't see anything good coming from lying about your marriage... If you do not inform CIC about your marriage, you will not be able to sponsor your wife later...
