Hello all,

I am Canadian citizen and sponsored my husband for PR:
- My husband has H1 visa and at present working in USA, he recently got his CoPR with 1 Oct 23 due date. He was planning to cross the border for Canada PR stamp on Sep 1, but he lost his Indian passport.
- Can he get CoPR extended? We did not get any response from IRCC yet.
- If he did not get extension, do I need to file sponsorship again for his PR? or only Medical is required again?
- He have his original CoPR but do not have passport, any possibility he can do the PR stamping online?
Any lead will help us for the next step. Thank you in advance.

COPRs cannot be extended. He needs to land in Canada before the expiry date.

He can do the stamping online if he is physically in Canada only.

If he doesn't come to Canada and land before the expiry date, you will have to sponsor him again from scratch (i.e. entire process, not just the medical).

Can he not get a replacement passport?

He should get a replacement passport asap. How can he cross the border without a passport or other travel documents? CoPR is NOT a travel document. And if he doesn't have a passport, how can he cross back to USA?
Extension of COPR is not usually issued. If he doesn't land before the expiry, you will need to sponsor him again from scratch.
The eCOPR and virtual landing is only for people who are already inside Canada.

I basically agree with all the advice so far, but:

1) Your spouse should also get a police report that passport has been lost - do this right away. (Police may be reluctant to issue, it's annoying work for them - but just let them know you need it 'for the embassy', they'll understand.

Why get this? My second point.

2) There is a chance, albeit a small one, that IRCC would grant an extension. Do NOT rely on this!

But if he needs to ask for this, it will likely only be on basis - with documentation! - that the passport was lost AND it was not possible to get a replacement passport soon enough. Again - IRCC might still refuse. That's up to them.

Side note: usually the COPR and the visa inserted in it are used together for travel (to board a plane). Your spouse MIGHT be able to enter at a land border from USA and 'be landed' (go through procedures at the port of entry to become a PR) with new passport and COPR without getting a new visa. But he would have to check with CBSA.

I just looked at our COPR and it has the passport number listed as 'Travel doc. no.' with 'Expiry date' and 'Country of issue' fields. I don't know whether CBSA would accept with non-matching data here - I believe the other idetnifying information (name DOB etc) there should be sufficient for them, but really, I'm only guessing.

Thank you all for the response, We have applied for the new passports and hopefully will receive them before the COPR expiry date.

Can we please connect? I am in a similar situation. Fedex lost my passport and COPR visa document as it was coming back from Ottawa after being stamped. I got a new passport but I don't know how to get it stamped without sending it by courier again. I have already contacted by phone and webform but nobody has been helpful. Please help me. I'd be super grateful.
