So I turned in my PR application August 29th 2012. At first it went to Mississauga, then was transferred to LA. I thought that was it but yesterday (more than 1 year later) I receive a request for an interview. This interview is not for only me, but my spouse (who is the one sponsoring) too. We were a little bit thrown off guard because I live in Chicago, he lives in Toronto and the interview is to be held in LA. I thought they would pick a location much closer to me (Detroit, NY, etc) but LA? Not only do we think it is far but that is a lot of unplanned expenses to fly 2 people from Toronto and Chicago to LA.

At this point, though we realize it is good news that they are finally working on our papers, we would rather have a closer location. I want to ask if any of you have been in this type of situation and requested another location. If so, how did that go?

PS: The interview is scheduled for January 7th 2014.

Hi They mostly call both applicant and sponsor for interview. They might or might not interview your spouse but he/she has to accompany you for interview unless their is solid reason for not attending. As far as its been one year for you, I have applied in november 2011 and still not done yet, although I am at the final stage now. It all depends on Case to case and individual's luck.

I believe after buffalo closed all interviews are held at LA only because Ottawa doesn't conduct interviews and only other office working is New york city, which is primarily working on study and work permits. So their is no choice for you and for them other than LA. I didn't see anybody going for interview other than LA in last 6 months. Our interview was at LA too.

At this point, though we realize it is good news that they are finally working on our papers, we would rather have a closer location. I want to ask if any of you have been in this type of situation and requested another location. If so, how did that go?
Goog thing is now things will move for you. If everything went well for you then it will be matter of month or two after interview.
PS: The interview is scheduled for January 7th 2014.
If you need to see what kind of questions they may ask. here is one the few threads on it. You can go through it.

Also I would highly recommend you to order GCMS now to see what doubts they have on your case and then you can prepare to defend those points.

Good Luck

US applicant, how in the world you guys get an interview? USA is an affluent country, visa exempt, it should be a piece of cake and no interview is needed.
