Got Acceptance From Seneca College - Bangladeshi Student

Dear friends,

I am from Bangladesh. I completed my BSc.Engg. in Computer Science & Engineering last year from a reputed govt. university of Bangladesh. I also took IELTS exam in Sep’10 and got Band Score 6.0 (Listening 7, Reading 5.5, Writing 5.0, Speaking 6.5).

After that I applied some colleges in Canada and got “Letter of Acceptance” from Seneca College for Fall, 2011 in “Computer Programmer” diploma Course.

Now I want to know,

I have completed Computer Engineering and now going to study for a diploma is it make any problem? Because diploma is a post secondary degree which value is less then engineering!

My IELTS score is not so good. How my IELTS score will consider after submitting visa application?

My sponsor will be my father, he is a lawyer & Stock Broker. My family is enough solvent to bear my educational expense. Moreover my father makes a fixed deposit of Tk. 20 lac (CAD $25,000 approx.) about 8 month ago only for my study abroad. He has other bank accounts & company accounts to show more money in bank statements. Is this enough to prove my financial soundness for Canadian Visa Office??

I have to submit the confirmation fee to Seneca College for confirming my seat in “Computer Programmer” course. If the visa is refused unfortunately, can anyone tell me the exact refund policy of Seneca College?

Completing bachelors in computer science and then going for a computer programming diploma is redundancy, as you must have completed pretty few courses on programming in your undergrad. Moreover computer programming courses are pretty much everywhere in Dhaka, so why choosing Canada? - Sorry but these are the questions that might come in VO's mind.

How about giving IELTS again and get at least 6.5 and apply for masters in universities?

Financial conditions seems positive.

Ask Seneca about refund policy, by email or phone.

yaa.. I understand the questionnaires of VO's mind. But Computer Engineering is a generalized course which consist all sort of ways like programming, electronics, networking etc. I like get this diploma because of only focus on programming in 2 years. If I write a good SOP, is it can convince VO?

Concordia University, is it in Quebec? I hear that if anyone want to study in Quebec then he will need a special permission to study there. Am I right?

Degree then diploma does not make sense. Diploma then degree makes sense. You go from lower to higher. All my siblings did their masters after bachelors. They are really doing well in the workforce. I never get around the idea of persuing short course certificates after higher studies. In the USA, my brothers run companies they don't even care about where you got your degrees from and how many . All they care about is , if you have work experience in the field they are looking for and if you can do the job within reasonable salary.

Yes, its in Quebec, and yes you have to get a CAQ (quebec study certificate) beforehand to apply for visa.

@ Nazia: All fingers are not alike. A lot of people go after diploma courses after having a degree (some go for diploma even after a Masters degree), especially if they have done some work in the corporate world for few years.

Most people who have had an experience in the job world want to upgrade their skills in a specific specialization, which is available as short term diploma courses. The motive is not to get job after that (since they were already doing that when they applied) but to gain valuable skills in their profession which will help them to move in the higher levels. Besides, once in the workforce, you really can't afford to be jobless for years and so doing a short term (8 to 12 months) diploma seems a much viable choice.

The motive of people applying for a study permit just after their graduation, and motive of people who apply for a study permit after few years of experience is very different.

@snake : After completing my graduation I join in our Brokerage House. I am working there from Feb'2010 till now. I am not sure the VO consider this as a valid job experience because I am working in our own company where Managing Director is my father. I did some projects for our company like online backoffice system for the clients. Also you know I did so many projects in my uni life & have thesis in final year.

you can emphasize on programming and tell in ur SOP that you are working at your dad's office and helping him to automate his broker house. Thus you need a structured and more specified programming course and hence you are applying for diploma in Canada. Also mention that, the courses here in Dhaka are good but are not well structured, and of good standard, thus you prefer to get an abroad degree.

Make a nice SOP, I guess things will be fine.

But now a major problem arise. What I will do for the College confirmation fee?

Is it mandatory to pay first semester fees before applying for Visa? Can they refuse visa for not paying the tuition?

I like to pay tuition after visa Because if I send the tuition fee after visa approval then it will be risk free.

What r u doing? did u send the tuition fee yet or is there another way?

I am trying for Concordia Uni and they said try for visa first, then everything; pretty professional

I would suggest you talk to the Seneca college staffs and try to convince them, if you can then fair enough, else ask them what are the refund policy in case you missed the visa.

If you have less time in hand, call them directly on Tuesday night, (after 7pm Dhaka time), coz they are close now for Easter and other holidays.
