My paper work is process and I noticed a serious mistake. I have an interview set up for Oct 26. Should I send in the corrected information which hopes that I wont get penalized? The question is have I ever entered the country as a refuegee or a visitor and I replied no when in fact it was yes. I entered Canada with a Visa in 2007 (visitor visa) I stayed two weeks then I entered USA undocumented. Now my wife being a canadian born citizen we are trying to go back to canada. My appointment is in Port of Spain. To top it off due to the years I misplaced that Visa. Can anyone give me any insite or help with this situation.

Thanks

Giving false information to CIC is considered as a serious offence. I can see only one remedy that you should make a letter to the visa office stating that an error happened in your application and explain the situation. I can't say how you could provide a justification for this matter. Try with a sincere apology.

Could this be the reason for the interview? And how badly is this going to be against me if I send in a letter the corrected information.

Where was this question in the application?

Schedule 1 -- its complicated.. just contact the embassy.. im sure they will be forgiving.
we all make mistakes.. we are afterall human..

jillandmat: Thank you..

OMG...Now I am freaking out I TICKED NO by accident...I dont know how the hell I made that stupid mistake... :o

i think we are all in the same boat.. i did it too.. i just emailed the embassy with scanned documents correcting the mistake (and a few others on that paper) its tricky.. we are all human.. we all make mistakes..

they contacted me right away.. -- and asked for the new docs.. I will be mailing the hardcopy tomorrow.. express..

Its so easy to skip over it.. its so tricky they need to make it more visible.. for sure.

i think it happens a lot.. was kicking myself and crying and everything b/c imagine they denied it and made us wait 2 years or more.. my mom was going to call the MP etc etc..

My application JUST got IN PROCESS on the 24th of June.. so its good that I caught it early.. but everything else is ok.. :(

just sucks.. at least my DH is positive...

Jillandmat: I just spoke to my DH...He was really positive too..I am going to contact London as soon as my application is in process..I did include a copy of my most recent Visitors Record and stated in my application that I am waiting for my extension..should get an answer on that one in a week or 2..My DH thinks they will see its an honest mistake..I must have read it as have you ever applied for PR or Refugee status...and not registered the rest of the question in my head!!

Right thats the thing.. my DH and I met in Canada.. and its mentioned all throughout the application.. so yes obviously it was an honest mistake.. no worries :) Think positive! :)

the refugee status i think throws people off a bit.

I am now wondering if NO would be the right answer for me..I am from the UK which is a Visa Exempt Country..I did not need to apply for a TRP before coming to Canada..I can be here for 6 months without a visa then extend my stay..the documents I have are Visitors Records..are these the same as Visitors Visas?

It is better to send in a letter stating you made a mistake and indicating that you did enter as a visitor.
They check these things and will find out anyway. If you don't tell them, they will assume you are lying, and you could be banned for two years for misrepresentation.
