Hello guys,

It's been a couple of months since I last posted a thread on here. We just received a letter from the Philippines visa office that is handling our case (My husband is a citizen of South Korea). They are requesting for the updated Appendix A, Personal History, Right of Permanent Residence Fee and the court documents regarding his case that was filed against him when he was a juvenile.

At the bottom of the letter writes,

"Unless we have specified otherwise, please send only original documents.
PLEASE RETURN A COPY OF THIS LETTER WITH THE REQUESTED DOCUMENTS."

I'm kind of confused about something here, however;

As I began browsing the Canadavisa forum, I noticed that lot of members here encourage others to pay the Right of Permanent Residence Fee upfront, in order to reduce the wait time. I also noticed lot of members stating that being asked to pay the Right of Permanent Residence Fee by the visa office is a good sign... Is this true?

Second question is.. when they send a letter requesting for additional documents, do they normally also request your passport be sent to them as well?

Another question is for those of you who had/have a criminal history. When we sent in our application, we sent copies of the court document (with disposition, charges and completion clearly shown on the paper). Now they are requesting the court document again.. are they asking for the court document just so they can see the original documents to confirm the authenticity of the copies we've sent?

Thanks for your time! Looking forward to any word of advice.

This is your "PPR"...because your husband if from a visa exempt country he does not need to send his passport in. Make sure you send in a copy of the letter that they sent you. It probably makes it easier for them to verify that your sent everything. Make sure you pay the RPRF and send a copy of the receipt with the documents. It is a good sign.

As for the legal documents do not know. Maybe someone else can help here..

I agree with gooner. that is his PPR. congratulations! the next thing you'll be waiting for is the COPR. Send a copy of the letter too. regarding the criminal case document, the CEM has a bad reputation in keeping documents. It is possible that they lost the copy or something. Just send it in, it wont hurt.

good luck! if everything goes well, you'll be reunited with your husband soon.

I really hope it is! I'm just eager to send all the requested documents out as soon as I can. What is the COPR? I'm not very familiar with that term. And I hope you're right about the court documents :(

COPR = certificate of permanent residence :) Just a question about the court documents though ... did you send an original one? or just a photocopy? I'm not sure about Korean documents but if you can send in an original one (authenticated by Korean court or something of that sort) maybe that would be better? Just a thought ...

Can you tell us this. Was the request for additional documents a letter by snail mail or an email?

The court document is actually from the US. My husband had been living in US for some time (legally, of course!) and committed a crime while he was of underage. And we sent copies. The letter from the Manila office is requesting for original documents. Still not sure why they would request the same documents though.. maybe someone in similar shoes can help us understand.

The request was sent via e-mail. Is that a good thing or bad?

If you got originals of it then I guess it's better to send it. Are you able to secure a duplicate copy of this? I heard that sometimes embassies do misplace or loose some documents ... the only risk I'm thinking of right now is if they loose this one again (I hope not!!!) that's why I asked if you are able to secure another copy just for safety. After all when you are done with the process CEM will return all documents to you (that's what I read in this forum).

It's neither good nor bad.

You are probably right. They are probably looking for the originals. But, you can reply to their email and ask them why they are asking for documents that you already gave them. Most likely the answer will be that they want originals, not copies, but that will clarify it for you.

I got an email request from CEM a month ago asking for a CBC for my Korean wife. I had already provided that document so I emailed them back asking why they were asking for a document I had already given them. They responded the very next day.

Be sure to include your UCI and file number with the email. Good luck.

Oh I see! I didn't know they actually responded to humans lol! I'll give it a go and see what they have to say. Thanks so much!
