Hi,

I'm from the Philippines. I've been working as a Software Engineer for over 10 years now since 2004. However I didn't finish college and my course in college was a medical course which was Bachelor of Science in Radiology Technology. I found full-time work as a programmer, started a family, and I just wasn't able to go back to school. It's a long story but basically I learned programming through self-study. I can say I'm pretty good in my field and I've been a development lead for the past 5 years.

I'm thinking about applying for work in Canada and hoping to have an employer hire me and apply for my LMO. Is this possible for me? I have enough experience and skills but I don't have a college diploma.

Do you think I can qualify for a LMO and eventually a work permit?

I would greatly appreciate your answers. Thanks!

Not all employers insist on a degree or diploma. If you can satisfy an employer that you have sufficient skills and experience, they could be willing to apply for an LMIA in order to hire you. The criteria for an LMIA has just become much more stringent, however, as the government wants businesses to make stronger efforts to hire Canadians before looking overseas.

Check out this government questionnaire that can help you figure out whether you're eligible to study, visit, work, or immigrate to Canada: http://www.cic.gc.ca/ctc-vac/cometocanada.asp
