This is great news but the part that I worry about is:

If you have not yet submitted an application to sponsor your spouse or partner but plan to do so, the application will not be dealt with as part of our backlog reduction efforts, but it will be processed as quickly as possible.

Yeah that's pretty scary. I am very curious to see what's going to happen with all the application that have been submitted already. They will be processed even slower, because all of their time and effort will be put into the new applications. Let's just follow the timeline to see if they finally start processing March-September 2015 applications....

I would not worry about this part. I think this means they will not include new applications in their objective, but at the end I'm sure they will go faster too. That's a very good news! :)

I think what they're saying is that they are now going to go back to the backlog and process those quickly, and the new ones will not be included in the same pull (so not impossible that there are two groups working on applications - one on the backlog and one on the new applications) but will be processed fast so that more people can be delegated to the backlog. In other words, looks like both the old and the new applications will now be processed very fast :) So good luck people!

i hope they'll divert newer applications to offices such as ottawa where they've already eliminated most of the backlog. that'll leave the rest of the VOs free to focus on clearing out their own backlogs. that way, no one gets put on hold. :)

i am so glad that harper wasn't reelected.

I also read this article this morning and it is great to hear that they are making that effort. It's refreshing to see that it is significant enough that they published an article on the CIC site about it.

On the flip side, one thing I would have liked to see though is some numbers. How many applications are in the backlog, how many are stalled due to different reasons like missing documents or things like criminal/medical inadmissibility etc... It seems to me that straightforward applications like ours (which have none of these issues), will continue to be processed with the same high priority as always. I also agree that they should divert more of the phase 2 applications to the Ottawa VO or others which have proven to be very efficient compared to other VOs abroad. There is a thread on the forum here talking about a US applicant that got their PR in 1 month processed through Ottawa! Wouldn't it be great if they could cut the average times in half or even more by diverting to these VOs. :)

What I would like is more transparency and more accountability. So if we wish to either go online and/or call we can get up to date information on where an application is and not some generic/dismissive answer/e-mail--for all applications even OWPs.

and related to TRVs, it would be great if they just included the "visa office notes" as part of the rejection letter. It's ridiculous to have to pay a measly $5 and then wait 30 days to receive the notes. We should also be able to just enter our application number and see all activity, and it's easy to hide everyone's personal information if privacy is a concern...

One other thing I realized when submitting our PRV application recently, is that they don't have a place on any form to enter the sponsors SIN number. If CIC had access to CRAs internal applications, or a direct link to it, don't you think they could get to sponsor approval in 5 minutes by looking through CRA tax history and doing a simple credit check rather than having to go through all the sponsor related documents?

Good credit is not a requirement to sponsor. As long as s/he is not currently in bankruptcy proceedings, they're eligible.

Same goes for anything related to CRA.

All very well of them saying this but would be nice if they didn't skip the processing of March-August 2015 inland applicants to instead process Sept-No 2015 applicants....
