Here are a few starting points for Ontario (the law society and a couple of non-profit organizations):aaabbb123 said:I applied for my PR renewal but it got to Special office.
From all the review I did it seems like a long process. I need to travel
for a family matter for 2 weeks in December. I need a good lawyer. I want someone who can
give good advise and not just take money
I am in Ontario
Depends on why your application was sent to local office/ special review. Do you have a shortfall of days? Was the application submitted while you were outside Canada? You can apply for a Travel Document if you don't have your PR Card by then....might be a good idea to get a US Visa too which will give you the option of entering Canada via a land border crossing.aaabbb123 said:I applied for my PR renewal but it got to Special office.

PR Card required to enter Canada via a commercial carrier. So if you can enter Canada at a land border crossing with say a private vehicle or on foot then PR card not needed - you have to show the border agent your COPR or IMM1000 as proof that at some point in time you got admitted as a PR. They will check their databases to make sure you have not lost PR. There is not much your lawyer can do if the application is within 'acceptable' processing timelines...last Federal court case law I saw on this had 12-15 mths processing considered 'reasonable'. What were you doing in Canada for the 800 days - employed/ self employed?sssmmm1234 said:Thanks everyone. I had more than 800 days before I applied for a renewal. NO idea what happened
Msafiri even if I have a US visa how do I come in. I mean they would still check for the card right?
