First of all you need a US VISA to goto US. US visitor VISA fees is USD 160 per person. It usually takes 7-10 days.
You can travel by car. To enter Canada you need Passport + CoPR and may be Expired PR card will be hlepful (I am not sure about that) but if you are not fulfilling PR residency obligations in Canada, CBSA may report you for not fulfilling RO. May be seniors can also shed some light on the last part.

No, British passport holders are visa exempt to USA.

Yes just a passport and copy of COPR/expired PR card/proof of PR renewal is more than enough.

If their PR card renewal is currently in progress, I assume they already meet the RO.

they will still need to fill in I94 forms at the US border and pay i believe 6 dollars us each though.

Hi Thankyou for your responses

So we complete 194 forms at the border and pay the $6 dollars each does that cover us for multiple trips or is just once.

Thankyou

is it your first time to the USA by road? I think they also look at country of origin if you are dual citizen.

if they were dual citizens they would be using their Canadian passports not British and avoiding this whole thread completely.

Anyway i94 is a single use and you are supposed to hand in on exit from the US so they know you have left the country. This is the same as pre ESTA when they stapled the i94 in your passport and then ripped it out at checkin when you left. There is some limited flexibility for multi use for example if someone flips back anf forth across the border in a few days but thats about it.

can't someone be dual citizen of UK and another country which is not Canada? this is what I meant here, otherwise you are right as being Canadian, there won't be issues..

My wife did this last time we went to the US. I can't recall if it's valid for a certain duration or you needed to get every single time.

When you get to the border, they will make you pull over and go into the US office where the paperwork is done. In our case it was an average busy day and the whole process took over 1 hour, most of that time just sitting and waiting. So prepare accordingly.

Would check if you can do this in advance before getting to the border to save time (I have no idea on this).
