Hey Guys,

I will land in Canada in December and was planning to visit US to meet family. I do realize that I won't have a PR Card.

Will I be allowed to travel back n forth both countries - I do plan to travel by Car or Train.

Please advise

Do you hold a visa exempt or non visa exempt passport?

Hi,

It should be fine if you fulfill all of the following:
1. You have US VISA.
2. CBSA gave you CoPR (Confirmation of PR) document at the time of your landing in Canada and you carry this along with your US trip.
3. You are entering Canada by private vehicle (car, taxi or foot).

Obviously, if you don't have US VISA, you cannot visit US. Also, returning by commercial carrier (Airplane, Bus or train) will also make it difficult as they will ask for PR card only and wont recognize CoPR for boarding the carrier.

If you satisfy all the three conditions, then when you enter Canada by land you can show CBSA your Passport and CoPR they will allow you entry without any issues.

Hi

I don't have a US Visa. An am not sure if my passport is visa exempt or not. Are both important?

If you are Indian then you need PR card or PRTD to return back to Canada.

First of all you need a US VISA for traveling to US. No VISA no visit to US.
If you have an Indian passport then your passport is not VISA exempt passport which means you cannot travel to certain countries without VISA.

Once you get US VISA then you can enter Canada from US:
1. If using commercial carrier (airplane, train, bus) you can use PR card or get PRTD (PR travel document) from Canada consulate from US.
2. If using private carrier (taxi, private car) you can use PR card or PRTD or CoPR document.
