Hello everyone,

I would like to go to the U.S after I do the landing next week. I will need to travel to U.S on my visitor visa to the U.S and come back to Canada after 1 week from landing in Canada. How can I do that?

If I take a train from the U.S, will it work?

Thanks

Not enough information. Do you hold a visa exempt or non-visa exempt passport?

If you hold a visa exempt passport, the train is fine.

If you hold a non-visa exempt passport, your only option is to re-enter at a US/Canada land border using a non-commercial form of transportation (e.g. friend's car). You cannot take the train or bus.

Thanks Scylla,

What if I don't have a friend in the U.S to pick me up to Canada and I really need to go to U.S and get back to Canada?

Isn't there a service in the U.S that picks someone up to Canada?

No - there is no such thing as a non-commercial train.

If you don't have a friend who can pick you up then one option would be to rent a car and drive over the border yourself. Another option would be to cross at a border that lets you walk across on foot.

thanks dbss, and going by private car through the borders is guaranteed?

Unfortunately no one can confirm for sure as it will be up to CBSA officer but given that you have a valid passport and expired TRV and only visiting States, I am 99% sure you will okay. %1 is if CBSA does not let you in due to technicality since you don't have all the documentation.

Make no mistake you are not entitled to enter with the missing documents (except when you are a citizen or PR) but CBSA decides that on a case by case basis.

Thanks dbss,

First of all, what's the TRV?

What are the required documents that I need to have with me except the passport and the landing documents?

I am not sure about it but please confirm before leaving Canada. Its clearly said that you should not leave Canada until you get your PR card.Landing paper is not a travel document. In case of emergency you should apply for travel documents.

TRV = Temporary Resident Visa. Issued to visitors who do not hold a visitor visa exempt passport to Canada.

CBSA just need to verify you are a PR and they must admit you as per a Constitutional right. Showing them your landing documents e.g. COPR/ IMM1000 makes this a much easier and more straight forward process.
