Hey everyone,

I have a question, my bf is with me right now in Canada and will be receiving his passport from Buffalo NY soon with his visa.

However, he must "land", we live an hour away from the Canada/USA border.
Q: Will we have problems going into the USA to just turn around and go to the Canadian border?
I mean I wouldn't mind spending some time in the USA, like a couple of hours but regardless of the time we spend there we'll be heading back home to Canada in the evening.

I don't want the USA to refuse us entry and have us go back to the border, that's bad on the record.

Any advice?

They don't "refuse" you entry if you don't actually want to cross over. Just tell them you are not entering the US, you just want to land as a PR in Canada/flagpole and they will turn you back to Canadian immigration. No record will be made of this, because you never actually attempted to enter the US. Most of these border agents are familiar with flagpoling, especially if you are going to a popular crossing.

Or, you can hop across the border, do some shopping/sightseeing, and land at the end of the day when you return.

But the first option is what many persons do.

Did I read on a thread somewhere that you can ask for an "administrative rejection" in US Immigration speak?

But you gotta wait in line at the US crossing, might as well do some shopping lol. Spent all that time driving and waiting.

So for the first option, they just direct you to the canadian border.

Oh no I don't want any adminstrative refusal, I have to be able to go the USA in the future with no problems.

I think we might just go on a Saturday and explain the US customs that we're planning on landing but we'd like to spend some time in the US.

FWIW An adminstrative refusal does not impact any future entry to the USA.

Enjoy your trip into the USA.
