I am currently in US and the wife is pregnant, first trimester...
We were told they this forum that Alberta is the place where we could the insurance
From day 1. But somehow I don't think it's possible for us to move to Alberta.
Toronto area (Ontario) is where we would like to settle.
There is a 3 month wait...... In Ontario...
So if I move there and settle there and assuming the delivery in in
October... Do you think Ontario will send us a bill if we keep going for a check up
At the hospitals... And once we show that we live in GTA area...(proof of residence) Will they
Refund us the money or waive off the bill.... Is that a possibility.

Thanks.

OHIP will become effective after 3 months wait. There are no exceptions to this in your case. Any costs your wife incurs for pregnancy (doctor check-ups, ultrasounds, blood work, emergencies, etc) during the 3 months waiting period, you will need to pay out of pocket. OHIP will not cover these costs, and they will not refund you anything afterwards.

After the 3 months waiting period, OHIP will then cover ALL medical expense only from that day going forward.

So if the delivery is in October, you better make sure to move to Ontario well in advance just in case of an early delivery. At least 4 months, so no later than June. Anything later and you risk having baby with no OHIP and facing a huge hospital bill.

In Saskatchewan you get insurance from day 1

In Quebec , Preganent women get insurance from Day 1. Also , Gatineau ( QC) and Ottawa ( ON ) are within 15 min driving distance to each other. Wink Wink Wink ;)
