Hi everyone. I need your help/advice. Here's my case :

I am from Manila and I have a TRV (travel visa). My boyfriend is a Canadian citizen. He is asking me to come to Canada soon and we will get married there. I have some questions :
1. If we get married in Canada and my travel visa expires during my stay there, what will be my status then? Will I be compelled to exit from Canada upon expiry of my travel visa?

2.After we got married in canada, can I search for jobs there?

3. What is the proper way to handle my change in status after we got married? What I mean is what is your suggestion after I got married in canada? Should I apply for PR after I got married?

Thank you for your replies.

1) if you are in Canada for a length of time, you may be able to apply to extend your visit visa. It will help your visit visa application if you say you are planning a PR application and/or have on in process. Yes, you should leave Canada if your visit extension is denied. This is especially true if your intend to file for a PR in the future. You should apply to extend your visit 1 month before your visit visa expires.

2)no. a visit visa does not entitle you to work in Canada. You may be able to apply for a work permit, but I'm not sure if they are granted often. If you apply inland for your PR, you can apply for a change in status (from visit visa to work permit) alongside your PR application.

3). I'm not sure what you're asking in #3.

Thanks for the quick reply. Im a little bit confused. If I marry a canadian, do i not automatically become a canadian too? If no, then what specific visa should my soon-to-be husband apply for me after we got married?

nope, sorry, canadian citizenship doesn't work like that.

your husband can apply to sponsor you as a permanent resident.
