Hello all,
I opened a local account in India in 2011. However, I didn't use this account much after 2012 since I had no use for it, and also, I moved to the US in 2013.
I returned to India about ten months ago, but continued to use my US bank accounts plus some cash I had.
Now I am on the verge of getting an ITA, and am arranging documentation for Proof of Funds. I am going to show the funds in my US account, which are not enough on their own, plus a gift deed from my mother. Since she is giving me a cheque, it is difficult to deposit it into my US account.
Therefore, can I deposit it into my old Indian account that I opened in 2011? It was dormant, and I reactivated it with the bank. My concern is that there is no account activity from 2012 to now. Is that a red flag? As part of my documentation, I intend to provide an LoE explaining that it's an account I did not use for many years, and also provide statements that show activity in 2011/2012 followed by depositing the gift money.
