GIC for Regular Stream?

If I apply via Regular Stream, can I still deposit money to the designated Canadian bank for GIC and use that for my proof of funds? Or GIC is only for SDS? I'm thinking it's a better document to use as proof of funds even for Regular Stream.

I'm applying via Regular Stream since I'm bringing my family with me and applying together.

1) yes you can get a GIC of 10K CAD for regular stream.
2) why can't you apply with family on SDS ?

I was told by an education counsellor that if you're bringing family, you need to use the regular stream. Family will have to apply separately if I use SDS. Can I apply with my family using SDS then?

I'm planning to get a GIC for $25k just to show that I have enough funds.

Thanks.

I think your applications are separate in any case. You will be applying for a study permit and your spouse and dependants will be applying for a visit visa or a Spouse open work permit. You would have to submit seperate forms in either case.

I am just asking because I haven't seen a role that forbids you from applying with family.

While making my online application, there's a question if family members are joining me. I answered yes. I'm assuming that it's falling under 1 application for all of us? It also told me that I have to pay for their fees, and I agreed.

By the way, how do you apply for a Spouse Open Work Permit? Is it the same as an Open Work Permit? I haven't seen that option.

I haven't tried it so I don't know, probably better to go with your counselor's advice on this one then. If you are able to afford paying the 1 years tuition and have a GIC then you should be fine from a proof of funds point.

SOWP is for the spouses of International students. Do note it is rarely granted due to historic abuse of the system . You can find more information about it at.
