Getting the PCC in Thailand

Here's a few questions for those who had to get a Police clearance certificate in Thailand :

1- Can we ask for the PCC before submitting the PR application? The Thai police website says that they need a proof that the immigration process is underway to give my wife her PCC. Is that correct?

2- Should we take a chance and still ask for a PCC?

3- If we apply for PR without including a PCC, will this cause a problem? More delays?

4- Then, could we ask for the PCC using the AOR, or if we should wait until the canadian government send us a letter asking specifically for the PCC?

5- Once we get that document, can we ask for the Thai PCC from Canada? (My wife will apply inland, so she won't take a chance to go back to Thailand just to ask for the PCC). Can it be done by mail ? Can it be done via the thai embassy in Ottawa?

Since we're both currently in Thailand, we would rather get the PCC right now...

We had the police clearance done before sending the application to CIC Mississauga
You run the chance of the whole application being returned if the PCC is missing from the application... they may let it go through and request it later...but it is a chance you take
Better to get it done while you are still in Thailand

Why are you applying inland?
In our case applicant received a TRV after stage one was approved and waited out the application process in Canada... extending the TRV. As she was in Canada even though the PCC expired... they didn't request a new one... they just checked with the RCMP for an update

Perhaps you can pay the fees and provide the receipt to show the PR process has been initiated

We just went through this not too long ago......

1. They need proof that you are married, They will ask to see the original Thai marriage Certificate bring a DFA authenticated copy of it as well, they might keep it., your wife's passport, work permit bring birth certificate too, if non Thai, If Thai I think they will ask for Thai ID card

If you are both in Thailand now go get it done..Go with your wife and bring copies of your passport and birth certificate and work permit if you or your wife has it. You both will be asked to sign the copies and you will be asked what the PCC is for tell them its for Visa to Canada. It takes roughly a month to receive it.

Canada does not require for immigration to be in process to have PCC done. The Thai think its required. You could go see the Canadian Embassy and see a consular that can speak Thai you may ask her to write that in Thai and sign it,

We had that done while we were at the Embassy getting translated copies stamped.

Go right to Bangkok to the Royal Thai Police I'm sorry don't remember the building number but it is not hard to find.

Thank you both for your reply. The Police Clearance service center here in Bangkok clearly states, among the required documents, that they want a "request for record check". I assumed it's the document that the immigration would send me once they find out that the PCC is missing. But I think I'll go to the ambassy tomorrow to ask them to write me their own "request for record check" in Thai language.

Any idea what I should bring at the embassy for them to procede? Our wedding certificate? A copy of her passport and ID? Anything else?

By the way, the 32 months waiting period at the Singapore office is the main reason why my wife will apply inland. By applying inland, she can get health insurance and an open work permit within 10 months after applying in Canada.

32 months isn't the average time it takes to process an application, its the average to finish 80% of the applications. If your relationship is solid with minimal red flags, you can expect to have your PR application finalized in close to a year by filing outland. Also just remember, with inland, you cannot appeal a negative decision, and your wife cannot leave the country for any reason. A lot of spouses who end up getting interview or have some problems in their applications, find themselves "stuck" in Canada for a long time and cannot leave.

Your passport and hers marriage certificate (translated to english and approved by DFA) You do have english translated and authenticated copies of your marriage documents right?

Explain to the consular that you need a statement from the embassy that it is not required by Canada to have an application in process to request a PCC make sure its signed, stamp wouldnt hurt either but that will cost you $50.00 CD. ummm if you have any other documents you would like the embassy to authenticate that would be the time to have it done.

Walk into the PCC center let your wife do the talking... be prepared they will ask for copies of your passport and birth certificate as well...you will have to each sign the copies...they will want to see the Thai marriage certificate, be sure you have an authenticated copy...they may keep it.

Be polite and you shouldn't have any problem especially since you will be with your wife (that also helps a lot from not having a record request)

Good Luck to you...We managed to just a get a hand written one from the Consular explaining in Thai that it was not required to have a request by Canada. It may have helped us to get that since we were there in person getting authentication done of or marriage documents..it was one of those by the way can you ....things. lol

Hope it all works out Just bring everything you could possibly need to for the Royal Thai Police.

I definitely did NOT need proof of application in process to get my Thai Police clearance. I applied from Canada by mail and had no problem receiving it in a reasonable period of time

My wife went to the Royal Thai Police today. I can confirm that they don't need any proof of application in process or "request for more information" by Immigration Canada or by the canadian embassy. I worried for no reason. But also, for a few extra bucks, they offered to have it ready for us within a week. Easy.

The police in Thailand just want to see a document, everything in Thailand has documents. Print out the part of CIC's web site where they explain that you and your wife have to get police clearances from each country you've lived in for more than 6 months. If they gripe, explain that CIC is above the embassy, that the embassy won't do anything. Sign your printout in their presence. Smile constantly and make jokes about Canada's stupid bureaucracy.

My wife had to fly down to Bangkok to get her PCC from Nong Khai, when we had a 3-month-old (who stayed in Nong Khai). She landed, had four hours to get it and get back to the airport. While she was at the police station, a police truck hit a power pylon and the power went out and all the computers went down. They took all of her information and said they would do it. Two weeks later we called up and they insisted they had never heard of us, she had to beg them for half an hour to do it.
