Getting PR while staying in Canada but working for a US company?

Hi everyone, I was lucky enough to get a job in Toronto 4 months ago when I graduated from school. And just recently, I received a 3 years work permit.

There's a company in the US that offered me a job. I don't have to move to America at all, can stay in Toronto and work remotely.

I'm wondering if I'll be able to get a PR if I don't work for a Canadian company? To give a bit of context, I'm a graphic designer and this US studio is one of the tops in its field. I'll get tons of great experience and my resume will look good if I work there.

The work experience for the U.S. company will count as foreign work experience - not as Canadian work experience. So you will certainly get points for this work experience - just not the additional points for having work experience in Canada. Generally speaking, Canadian work experiences makes it easier to get PR.

I would recommend that you calculate how many points you have under Express Entry using foreign work experience only. You need to score in the range of 470 to be selected through Express Entry.

Being selected through Canadian Experience Class won't be an option since you need to have at least one year of full time Canadian work experience.
