I'm a US citizen getting married to a Canadian, and because she has job obligations in Canada until June, I'd like to move to Ontario until that time. However, I'd have to commute at least several days per week to my job in the US. After June we'd be moving to the US. I need to find out if this is possible to do this without any special visa. It seems pointless to apply for permanent residency, since the application would not even get processed before we move to the US. Can I live in Canada temporarily and commute to the US with just a passport?

There's no special visa that will allow you to live in Canada and commute to the US. To be able to do this, you would need to have PR.

Your US passport allows you to visit Canada but not live here. What you're talking about doing is living in Canada. You can try doing this on your US passport - however it's possible you may at some point have trouble re-entering Canada - whether you're allowed into Canada and for how long is really up to CBSA. I would get a nexus card asap.

Would being able to show a PR application-in-process help if a border agent made trouble? And a nexus card would only assist in speeding up the border crossing, right?

A PR application might help - but it certainly won't guarantee re-entry. Nexus card typically makes entries easier - but again, no guarantees.
