Hi everyone,
Thank you for taking the time to read my post, it has been several months since my last thread, but I decided to create a new one since there is a lot going on and I would appreciate some candid advice before speaking to an immigration consultant
Here are some footnotes for ease of reading below ;
- I am a 25 year old Canadian male who has been in a steady relationship with a 25 year old Japanese woman, and we will be getting married this January.
- We just found out she is one month pregnant, baby is due around mid June 2016, but needs further confirmation once we visit the doctor
- She is currently on working holiday, which is expiring at the end of June next year, 2016
- We are both working full time with decent jobs and have a comfortable income between the two of us
- Our relationship is very good and stable, we have lots of proof of our serious relationship including lots of pictures, numerous trips to various countries, evidence of us meeting each others parents, correspondence, etc.
We are in the process of trying to prepare as much as we can in the following months to ensure that we do not get caught off guard with the numerous changes that have already begun and will continue to change and shape our lives significantly in the near future. Here are some questions below that we would really love some answers to, also in preparation for seeing our counsellor:
1.) If we have the baby in Japan, would I be able to sponsor the child as a Canadian Citizen?
2.) If I, the father, take a paternity leave, can I go outside of the country, e.g. Japan? Is it possible to apply for a Working Holiday there simultaneously?
3.) Would an inland or outland application be better in this case?
4.) Since we are getting married in January, and having the baby in June which is very close to the end of her working holiday, would it be possible to expedite the process of sponsoring her (and the baby) for Permanent Residence status?
5.) When is the best time to apply for child care benefits in Canada, e.g. UCCB? Would we still receive payments if we are temporarily out of the country?
Thanks again for taking the time to answer some of these questions. Any comments/suggestions would be very much appreciated. This is a new and exciting time in our life but there are many unknowns that we are trying to figure out and issues that we are trying to tackle early. The main concern stems from my fiancee having her working holiday expire end of June, and the baby being born around that time. I will be checking this thread regularly and replying when I can.
Regards,
