Getting married in canada on visitor visa

Hi y'all

I am a Canadian citizen and my boyfriend is Indonesian, and we currently live in Indonesia.
We are thinking of going to join my parents in Canada, initially on a TRV, but with the hope to eventually permanent residency or a work permit.

We are thinking of getting married in Canada. If we did so would he be able to extend his visitors visa into a spousal visa without returning to Indonesia?

Also, if he didn't manage to get a TRV would it later on affect his chance of getting a spousal visa if we then got married in Indonesia?

If your boyfriend hasn't gotten his TRV to Canada, he needs to apply soon before you get married. Once you get married, applying for TRV would be much much harder to get since proof of leaving Canada is harder to convince once you are married.

If your boyfriend currently has a TRV, then you can come visit Canada and get married in Canada. Once married you can start submitting your PR sponsorship inland along with OWP application same time. This would allow your then husband to stay in Canada without having to go back to Indonesia. He would have to remain in Canada during the entire process.

If your boyfriend doesn't have a TRV and got denied TRV, your marriage in Indonesia would be valid providing you provide proper documents. You would then have to process the PR outland as your then husband does not have a TRV to enter Canada with you for inland process.

BTW: there is no such thing as a spousal visa in Canada.

No. Applying for PR outside Canada tends to be the quickest route compare to inside Canada.
