Hi all;

I hope to get my PPR soon and plan to get married with my spouse after that and before landing. My spouse is also included in our application for PR so no additional spousal sponsorship needed :). Is that a big conplication since my spouse will have new passport with different surname? What are the steps we need to do since I can't seem to find info on CIC pages. We are from a visa exempt country.

Thanks!

Be careful bro,
By every mean you have to be truthful to CIC when submitting any document or else this will lead to BAN

My spouse and I have submitted PR app together, no worries about that. I am just wondering what happens if we get PPR and then get married after we already sent copies of our passport to CIC? Because she will have a new one with different surname then.

When you submit the documents, CIC will ask for marriage certificate and if you haven't submitted your app will be rejected.

what i suggest you is to go ahead with your PPR alone. Once you get the PPR after your marriage open a case specific and request CIC to add your wife's name and this will take approx 3 weeks and then do the landing along with your wife.
OR
Let your wife join with you in Canada as a visitor as she don't need a visa and in mean time you can start with the inland sponsorship

Don't change the name till the passport expires.
OR
After marriage change the name in passport first and Let CIC knows that you both are married and She requires a surname change in her documents

I forgot to mention that my spouse and future wife is accompaniying me to Canada so we are both getting PPR if everything works out. We mentioned everything in our PR app. The only issue is her passport change after PPR.

Can you explain your situation a bit more clearly?

* Are you already in Canada?
* Did you file your application as a single or a married applicant?
* What do you mean by your spouse is already included in your application? What have you told CIC?
* Why does her passport need to change? Is it expiring? Is your name being added to it?

Is she currently included in your PR app as your common-law partner?

Yes! Sorry for not explaining situation as clearly as I should have. And we are both out of Canada right now and she will need a new passport because of surname change. We plan to marry after PPR if it goes through.

I believe a lot of the confusion here stems from your use of the word "spouse". Usually, "spouse" means husband or wife. (Google says that it also applies to common-law partners, but I'm a native English speaker, and have never heard it used in this context.)
