Hi Everyone,

I just graduated from a 2 year program and hold a 3 yrs Post Grad Open Work Permit (PGWP). I have been in a long distance relationship since Sept 2013 and have just been able to visit her in August 2014 for a month during my summer break. I recently got a job and want to get her here asap.

Read a couple of posts and am quite unsure on how to proceed. Though I plan to fly back and get her here on visitors post applying for spousal dependent in November I wish to start sometime soon for gathering the documents. We have our chats, video calls, phone calls, a 179 pages book I have written for her etc etc as a proof.

My question is : How soon can I get her here and is it possible to get her here on Toursit and apply for her dependent? Chances of rejection? we have had enough of long dist and plan to start our life here.

Can any of you help me out to decide so we can start working towards it?

1. She has to apply for a TRV on her own.
2. Until you are either married or have lived in a common/law relationship for 1 year, she is not your spouse and not eligible for a SOWP>

Thank you so much for your response.

I am heading back home for marriage in november.

I would want her to apply for visitors or travel visa to get here. once she is here i was planning to get married here and apply for dependent. Is there any chance of the dependent getting rejected?

also, if i put my file for PR and add her for dependent once we get married here, is there any chance of rejection or any problems?

Yes - there's certainly a chance her TRV or open work permit may be refused. There are plenty of people on this forum who have been refused. To increase your chances of approval she should show she has strong ties to her home country (e.g employment) and has no plans on remaining in Canada long term.

As for PR, you won't have any issues including her in your application.

so I am eliginle for PR in August 2016. I might keep the file, go back home get married, get her here on visitor/travel visa-> get married here and directly add her name to my PR application??

I have had 2 years of long distance without having to see her at all in person. There has got to be a way when we cannot delay this further :(

You only need to get married in your home country or in Canada (not both). There is no guarantee she will be approved for a visitor visa. It's possible she may have to remain in her home country and wait out the processing of the PR application there.

If you don't want to delay things further, then she should apply for a TRV now (before you are married) and hope it's approved. If it's refused, then you should return home, marry her and then try applying for a SOWP. If that is also refused, then you will have to be separated longer.

so if she applies for Visitors (TRV) now or rather 3-4 months before coming here and get approved.. what should be the next steps??

do I get her here and apply for SOWP as soon as we land and wait? Wont they ask her for proof...or why she lied while applying for visitors..

I was considering safest/surest and the most expensive option at the same time... STUDY VISA... get her enrolled in a course for Next winter intake... she gets to come here.. we get married while she is attending school and add her as depenmdent on my PR file while she is studying...
