Getting an open work permit during inland sponsorship

I am a US citizen who is being sponsored through the inland process by my Canadian husband. I came to Canada with a stamp in my passport as is allowed for US citizens for 6 months. During this time, we have applied for family sponsorship in-Canada class. We filled out all documents and information requested in Document Checklist IMM5443E, the Inland Family Sponsorship forms.

My questions are:
1. Since my husband and I have no children together, I see we will be granted "conditional permanent residency". Does it take the whole 26 months of permanent residency processing time to get this status or will it come sooner?

2. If I filled out all of the forms listed in Document Checklist IMM5443E, are there additional forms I need to fill out to get my open work permit? Which forms?

3. How long does it take before I will be able to work in a typical process?

Thank you!

If you sent your PR app before your 6 months visa expired you would be eligible for the OWP. OWP in that situation has been arriving for people in about 4 months. You should have included the OWP forms with the PR app. You can still send the OWP application and there is a google document that explains how to go about doing that but I can't find the link at the moment.

Conditional PR is something that would start when you finish the application process and land as PR. Then you will have Conditional PR for two years from that date. However, Trudeau has said they will getting rid of the Conditional PR so by the time you land it may be a non-issue.

Thank you so much for the information! I am still within my 6 months so I am eligible to apply for the work permit. I'm going to send that off right away. I'm glad I finally got the right information! :)

Good idea. If you do not have a file # yet for your PR app, then I might include (in the OWP app) a cover letter stating that you have applied for PR and include a copy of the PR app payment receipt, a copy/screenshot of the courier tracking showing "delivered", etc, just stuff to show that the OWP app corresponds to the PR app. The reason is that if you don't have a File # (which comes w/ your AOR letter) then it likely hasn't been entered into the system yet, so when they open your OWP app, they might not be able to find your PR app in the computer and reject it. I hope that all makes sense.

Thank you. I have the AOR for my husband's sponsorship application, so I will include that as well as a cover letter. Thank you so much for the helpful advice.

Oh if you have AOR, then you have the application file#. So that is perfect, be sure to reference that file# and you should get OWP in about 4 months :)
