Hi everyone,

I am currently working in Canada on a closed work permit and was wondering if i get terminated, would it be possible for my spouse (who is on SOWP) to register a business and issue a work permit to me?

Current work permit is LMIA exempt.

Thank you.

It might be possible but this is quite an invovled process that is not guaranteed to succeed. Your spouse would need to successfully apply for an approved LMIA showing business legitimacy and that no Canadian could be hired for the role, among other things. Without the business being operational for a year and having real income / operations in Canada, you probably won't be successful. Your spouse will also need to explore the requirements around registering a business in Canada as a foreign worker.
