Getting a job offer in Canada for raising CRS

I have been planning to apply for immigration and have all my docs ready, got my ECA evaluation done and had given my IELTS test. My scores came as Reading - 9, Listening - 7.5, Speaking - 7.5 and Writing - 6.5 (Overall -7.5). Since my band is not CLB9, my CRS score is a little less. Around 400.

Some people were advising me to retake the IELTS but I don't really want to take the test again for the 2nd time.

I believe, I can get a lot of points if I get a job offer in Canada. How much feasible is this? I have around 4 years of research work experience after my Masters degree.

If anyone has got a job prior to their application please share your experience and kindly let me know your experience as well.

Thanks in advance.

It would certainly be very helpful, yes.

However, I think it's very hard. I have 4 years research experience and applied for about a year to various jobs. Never got a response. Usually, I had to fill out a form that asked whether I already had a valid visa to work, and I am pretty sure that disqualified me immediately. I also talked to a person who works at the HR fora big company in Alberta, and she told me that the chances are very, very low right now. There are enough Canadians looking for a job, and getting a worker from abroad is a big hassle for the company. :-/

But of course you never know... I wish you good luck!

I agree with Duskyblue. It is very difficult to get a job offer if you are not in Canada unless you have a VERY specific job position or experience who is crucial for them.

I noticed you are saying that "your band", singular, is less than CLB9. Just to make sure - you know that the CLB levels are calculated separately for each language skill, right? Your Reading score, for example, is definitely CLB10. Did you use the official CRS calculator to check your EE score?

Your CRS Points will increase by atleast 58 points if you retake IELTS and score the below minimum points for CLB 9:
L - 8
R- 7
S- 7
W- 7

If you score more than the above points, then definitely your score might increase by more than 58 points from your existing CRS points.
All the best.

Here's the link to the tool:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp
Just enter your details, and it will calculate your score.

The points for each skill are calculated separately, like I said, and also, like sushsmart15 said, you'll get additional points in the skills transferability section if you get all skills to be more than a certain level.

Right now your Reading and Speaking are CLB10, and Listening and Writing are CLB8. If you improve your Listening and Writing IELTS score by only 0.5 (all 4 skills will be above CLB9), you will get the maximum points possible for the language. I think this is much more feasible than getting a job offer + LMIA. Depending on your situation, it might give you more than +50 points.

Even now, with your current results, you do get some additional points under skills transferability (since all your skills are above CLB7), just not the maximum.

In theory, you can get 600 points for a job offer+LMIA, but practically it is next to impossible. I have seen posts on this forum, where people having job offers find it extremely difficult getting their employers to process LMIA.

Agree with Ellia and Sushmart15, it is much easier to rewrite IELTS and increase your scores.
