Getting a driving license in India while having a Canadian license

Hi all, I have a general question to ask.
I am a holder of G2 and currently vacationing in India. Was wondering if it's any worth to get a drivers license in india? i talked to RTO and they suggested i get the
International Driving Permit but that lasts for one year only.
