Getting a dependent visa for spouse while studying in Canada

Hi Everyone,

I stay in Ottawa, pursuing Masters in Computer Science from University of Ottawa.

Now, I want to call my wife on a dependent visa who is in India. I am planing to call her in next year January (2014)

I just wanted to know :
1) Where to start - like from where I need to download the forms and what all documents are required
2) Does she needs to show funds while applying for visa like I did for my student visa
3) what are the chances of getting a dependent visa
4) If her visa is approved will she be allowed to work directly and if yes then how long she can i work

u have two option she can apply for TRV or she can apply for work permit . dependent visa is the regular TRV / visitor. u select open work permit. all u have to do is add ur marriage certificate and financial documents that show enough fund to support u and her.

plz correct me - spouse can apply for dependent visa which is TRV and then apply for work permit ??
or we can apply simultaneously for both ??

sorry i'm confused...

when u do work permit then if u see in the document list there is schedule 1 which will take care of TRV and at the POE ur wife will be issued an open work permit valid till ur study permit validity. If she applies for TRV aka dependent visa aka visitors visa then she cannot work unless she later applies for work permit. TRV is a general visitors visa and u apply with ur marriage certificate and other details and at POE she will get a visitors permit valid till the duration of ur study permit. without marriage certificate normally she will be allowed to stay only for 6 months.
so basicly u have two choices
1) work permit(TRV will be issued with this permit if schedule 1 is attached)
2) TRV with marriage cert (at POE will get visitors permit)

Hi

I am a full time graduate student in Canada.

And my husband is coming on Business Visa from India since he is working for a client in Canada.

Can he also apply for the open work permit on behalf of my study permit.

i am in contact with Canadian lawyer for the same...he said that it is quite easy to get the open work permit for the spouse if you are studying...I'll keep u posted...
